Shonda Rhimes to adapt Anna Delvey scam story for Netflix

The viral story of New York con woman Anna Delvey is coming to Netflix — with help from Shonda Rhimes.

Shondaland and Netflix have acquired the rights to New York magazine’s recent article about Delvey, with Rhimes attached to write the series.

Jessica Pressler wrote the article, which chronicles how the supposed it-girl posed as a German heiress and conned her way into a luxurious lifestyle filled with expensive hotel stays, lavish international trips, and $100 tips. (There’s also a Vanity Fair article about how Delvey conned a photo editor out of $62,000.) The 27-year-old tried to raise millions to launch a “Soho House-ish” art club before being arrested, and she’s currently being held without bond on Rikers Island.

The Delvey project is Rhimes’ first with Netflix; she signed a multi-year deal with the streaming service and left her longtime home of ABC — where she launched hit shows like Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal, and How to Get Away with Murder.
