Joining the cast of hallowed late-night sketch show Saturday Night Live is both an exciting and overwhelming prospect for anyone. But for Casey Wilson, who was the only new cast member in season 33, things were even more challenging given she was on her own.

The actress, who is currently starring on Showtime’s Black Monday, sat down with PeopleTV’s Couch Surfing to look back at some of her career highlights, including her big break on SNL. “It was great, but it was hard,” she said. “There wasn’t anyone coming in with me, so you know the energy you have when you’re like, ‘I’m excited!’ and everyone’s like, ‘We’ve been here for ten years. We’re going home.'”

Wilson was fairly on her own in the cast, given that she was the first new addition to the SNL cast in over two years when she debuted on the show in Feb. 2008. She spent two seasons on the show before she was let go in 2009. Still, she only has nice things to say about her experiences there.

“Everyone was very nice and Kristen Wiig and Michaela Watkins are amazing,” she stressed, looking back at one of her most memorable sketches as Toni Ward, co-host of talk show The Cougar Den. James Anderson on SNL wrote this sketch and it was so much fun,” she reminisced. “And we’re just complete cougars.”
