The Big Bang Theory becomes the longest running multi-camera sitcom with 276th episode

The Big Bang Theory is quickly approaching the end of the line, but the show is passing one more landmark before it goes.

With the production of its 276th episode, the CBS sitcom has officially claimed the title of longest-running multi-camera sitcom, surpassing Cheers‘ previous record of 275 episodes. (272 episodes of The Big Bang Theory have aired so far.)

The show’s official Twitter account tweeted a photo of the cast around a tray of cupcakes spelling out “276.” Show stars Kaley Cuoco and Kunal Nayyar also marked the occasion on Instagram. “What a dream come true,” Nayyar wrote. “Thank you for your kindness over these past 12 years, there are no words in any language that could ever express the love I have for all of you.”

As EW reported in August, CBS and Warner Bros. TV decided to conclude The Big Bang Theory after Jim Parsons announced he wanted to leave the show. Big Bang will wrap up its run at the end of its current season, with the series finale airing May 16.
