Who let the direwolves out? A guide to the Stark family pets on Game of Thrones

Despite being the sigil of House Stark on Game of Thrones, the family pets have had some dire fates. Ahead of the final season of the HBO megahit (premiering April 14), let’s check in with this not-so-successful doggy day care.

• Grey Wind
• Stark counterpart: Robb Stark (Richard Madden)
• Last seen: Attending the worst wedding ever in season 3. When his master was slaughtered by hosts the Freys, Robb’s wolf suffered the same fate.

Summer
Stark counterpart: Bran Stark (Isaac Hempstead Wright)
Last seen: Beyond the Wall in season 6. Maybe it was fitting that the pup named for the warmest season couldn’t survive ice.

Shaggydog
Stark counterpart: Rickon Stark (Art Parkinson)
Last seen: The worst-named of the pack, poor Shaggydog was beheaded by the Umbers in season 6.

Lady
Stark counterpart: Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner)
Last seen: On the Kingsroad in season 1. When Ayra’s wolf bit Joffrey but couldn’t be found for punishment, King Robert (but really the Lannisters) insisted that Sansa’s pet be executed in its place.

• Nymeria
• Stark counterpart: Arya Stark (Maisie Williams)
• Last seen: In the woods in season 7. After six seasons apart, Arya was briefly reunited with her wolf on her way north. As Nymeria is now enormous and the alpha of a pack, they parted ways peacefully.

Ghost
Stark counterpart: Jon Snow (Kit Harington)
Last seen: Once believed to be the runt of the litter, the albino pup could teach his siblings a thing or two about survival. One of only two members of the pack still living, Ghost has proved himself a lifesaver in battle and beyond the Wall, over and over again. So what if he doesn’t breathe fire?
