Dan Fogelman hints at a possible Pitch revival

The Fox drama Pitch — which told the story of the first female to hurl for Major League Baseball — could make a comeback if ABC's 20th TV convinces creator Dan Fogelman (the genius behind This is Us) to stay with the studio.

EW has confirmed a report by THR that the studio has pitched (sorry) the possibility of a Pitch revival that could air on one of Disney's platforms if Fogelman re-ups with the studio. His pact expires this year and, naturally, there's a lot of interest by other companies to snatch up the guy who gave NBC a huge hit in This is Us. Since 20th (which was gobbled up by Disney) owns the rights to Pitch, Fogelman could only bring back the drama if he stayed with the studio.

Fogelman certainly seems receptive to the idea. On Thursday, he tweeted a photo from Pitch's pilot shoot in 2016. He's sitting in Petco Park, home of the San Diego Padres, where the drama was shot from 2016-17.

"I sure did love this office," Fogelman tweeted.

Mark-Paul Gosselaar, who played a catcher on the show, followed up with a promising tweet of his own.

Pitch, which starred Kylie Bunbury as rookie Ginny Baker, barely got off a few bunts in its first season before it was canceled after its first 10-episode season; it averaged 4.7 million total viewers and 1.4 in the 18-49 demographic. But Fox's former co-president Dana Walden loved the little baseball show that could and she's now the Chairwoman of Disney Television Studios and ABC Entertainment.

Could it happen as early as the 2018-19 season? Eh, probably not: Fogelman remains seriously committed to This is Us and Gosselaar stars in The Passage for Fox, even though its on the bubble for a second season pickup. Even if Fogelman were to get started on a Pitch revival, it's unlikely the drama would air on broadcast TV. A cable or streaming platform seems more likely. Stay tuned.
