Netflix's The Crown has found its Princess Diana

The Crown executive producer Peter Morgan has found his Princess Diana. It was announced Tuesday that actress Emma Corrin will portray Diana in season 4 of the Netflix show about the British royal family, which begins filming later this year. Corrin's credits include the upcoming film Misbehavior, and she also has a recurring arc in Epix's new Batman show Pennyworth.

"I have been glued to the show and to think I'm now joining this incredibly talented acting family is surreal," Corrin said in a statement on Twitter. "Princess Diana was an icon and her effect on the world remains profound and inspiring. To explore her through Peter Morgan's writing is the most exceptional opportunity and I will strive to do her justice!"

Diana married Prince Charles in July 1981. The couple had two children, the Princes William and Harry, and divorced in 1996. Diana died in a car accident in Paris in August 1997.

The first two seasons of The Crown starred Claire Foy as Queen Elizabeth II and Matt Smith as Prince Philip. In the show's upcoming third season, those roles will be portrayed by Olivia Colman and Tobias Menzies. Other new cast members include Helena Bonham Carter as Princess Margaret and Ben Daniels as Antony Armstrong Jones.
