Katey Sagal to star in Erin Brockovich-inspired ABC drama

The pilot hails from Grey's Anatomy and Station 19 showrunner Krista Vernoff.

Katey Sagal will ride again at ABC. The Sons of Anarchy veteran and current The Conners star will now lead the potential new series Rebel, the Erin Brockovich-inspired drama that was picked up for a pilot commitment at the network.

When most people think of eco-activist Eric Brockovich, they think of Julia Roberts, who starred in the 2000 film from director Steven Soderbergh and screenwriter Susanah Grant (Unbelievable). But Sagal will star as Annie “Rebel” Bello, described as “a blue-collar legal advocate without a law degree,” “a funny, messy, brilliant and fearless woman who cares desperately about the causes she fights for and the people she loves.” Per a brief logline description, “When Rebel applies herself to a fight she believes in, she will win at almost any cost.”

Krista Vernoff, who showruns Grey’s Anatomy and its spin-off Station 19, writes and executive produces Rebel, marking her third project at ABC. The real Brockovich will also executive produce alongside John Davis, John Fox, and Alexandre Schmitt.

In the past few years, Sagal was seen in various roles across ABC’s Grand Hotel, Showtime’s Shameless, FX’s Sons of Anarchy spin-off Mayans M.C., and CBS’ Superior Donuts.
