Martin Freeman is on the case in trailer for British crime drama A Confession

Sherlock star Martin Freeman is back to sleuthing in the new British crime drama A Confession.

The actor plays Detective Superintendent Steve Fulcher, who is investigating the disappearance of 22-year-old Sian O’Callaghan and piecing together her last movements before she vanished. Believing Sian may still be alive and held against her will, Fulcher initiates an urgent full-scale search operation. Through diligent and painstaking police work, Fulcher and his team discover CCTV footage of Sian in the High Street, which leads to vital clues in the investigation. Racing against time, Fulcher edges closer to a chief suspect, local taxi driver Christopher Halliwell, and ultimately finds himself standing on the precipice of a life-changing choice between following police protocol and catching a killer.

A Confession is written by Jeff Pope (Philomena, Stan & Ollie) and directed by Paul Andrew Williams (Broadchurch). The show costars Siobhan Finneran (Happy Valley, The Stranger) and Imelda Staunton (Vera Drake, the Harry Potter franchise) who, it was recently announced, will play Queen Elizabeth in season 5 of The Crown.

A Confession premieres on BritBox in May.
