Obama zings Trump on Jimmy Kimmel, jokes Navy SEALs can remove him from White House if needed

Barack Obama came out with jokes on Jimmy Kimmel Live Thursday to promote his new book, A Promised Land. A bunch of them were about current President Donald Trump, who has refused to concede and now has been reportedly pressuring Republican legislators to overturn the election results on his behalf.

"Well, I think we can always send in the Navy SEALs in there to take him out," Obama joked, in reference to the raid on Osama Bin Laden's hideout in 2011 during his presidency.

At the start of the interview, host Jimmy Kimmel asked his guest, "Why did you leave us with him?"

"I've got to follow the Constitution and Michelle's mandate, which was eight years and then we had to get out of there," Obama replied with laughs.

As the discussion turned to his book, Kimmel asked if Obama wrote A Promised Land as 701 pages to make sure that Trump would never read it. Again, he had a response teed up nicely: "I don't think it would have had to be 700 to make sure he didn't read it, from what I hear."

Kimmel and Obama covered many topics over the course of their 25-minute interview, which included talk of the Bin Laden portion of the book, Obama's presidency, his family, the recent election of Joe Biden as president, and Trump's refusal to acknowledge Biden's victory or a peaceful transition of power.

Republican Senator Mitt Romney, who had previously cozied up and sided with Trump earlier in the presidency, slammed him in a Twitter post on Thursday, insisting he "failed to make even a plausible case of widespread fraud or conspiracy before any court of law" and is now "resorted to overt pressure on state and local officials to subvert the will of the people and overturn the election." Romney added, "It is difficult to imagine a worse, more undemocratic action by a sitting American President."

"I wish the transition was going better, because we lose time during these crises," Obama said on a more serious note. "When I came in, we were in the middle of a big crisis, the financial crisis. George W. Bush, he and I had obviously big policy differences, but he's a good man, he's a patriot. And he ordered everybody on his team to work seamlessly with us on the transition. Could not have been more gracious, could not have been more helpful. And that actually helped us be able to get a head start on trying to stem what could have been a great depression instead of a great recession."
