First Cobra Kai season 5 trailer teases the Chozen-Silver showdown we're dying to see

Netflix just dropped the first look at Cobra Kai season 5, which will be here sooner than you think.

In just 127 days, it'll be time to cut the head off the snake. But figuratively — not literally!

Netflix just dropped the first trailer for Cobra Kai season 5, which will hit your screens on Friday, Sept. 9. The nearly two-minute teaser previews another tense showdown between dueling karate senseis Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) and former toxic waste magnate Terry Silver (Thomas Ian Griffith).

Season 4 ended with Silver leading the sinister Cobra Kai dojo to a (fraudulent) victory in the 51st Annual All Valley Karate tournament — and forcing Daniel and Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) to shutter their respective dojos, Miyagi-Do and Eagle Fang Karate. In the new trailer, we see that Silver is now opening sleek new Cobra Kai dojos all over the Valley, while Daniel and his enemy-turned-ally Chozen (Yuji Okumoto) are formulating a plan to, in Daniel's words, "cut the head off the snake." And how about that glimpse of a steely-eyed Chozen facing off with Silver: "And I am gasoline"? Chills.

As for original Cobra Kai Big Bad, Sensei John Kreese (Martin Kove) — well, he's nowhere to be found. Perhaps he's cooling his heels in the big house after Silver framed him for aggravated assault and attempted murder in the season 4 finale.

And where is Johnny in all of this? Mexico, of course! When his student/surrogate son, Miguel (Xolo Maridueña), disappeared south of the border to find his biological father, Johnny pledged to Miguel's mom, Carmen (Vanessa Rubio), that he'd bring the boy home. The new footage shows the Eagle Fang sensei in Mexico with his own son, Robby (Tanner Buchanan) — who is none too pleased that his dad tricked him into helping find his nemesis. If the scene with Johnny and Robby striding into a cage-fighting arena wearing matching FBI ("Female Body Inspector") T-shirts doesn't make you laugh, please check your pulse.

Meanwhile, Sam (Mary Mouser) does some hard-core training with a Bo staff, Tory (Peyton List) seems to contemplate her ill-gotten championship, and Silver proves that he's still enforcing those bloody-knuckle teaching tactics that so traumatized Daniel in The Karate Kid: Part III.
