Oscar winner Emma Stone is planning a return to TV, and it sounds totally bonkers in the best possible way.

Stone will star in and executive produce The Curse, a new half-hour comedy series for Showtime co-created by Nathan Fielder (Nathan For You) and Benny Safdie. Safdie and his filmmaker brother Josh, who jointly directed Adam Sandler in Uncut Gems, will also executive produce the show with Fielder, who is directing.

In addition to their behind-the-camera duties, Safdie and Fielder will co-star in The Curse with Stone.

Now for what this project is actually about. The Curse, described by Showtime as a genre-bending scripted comedy, will follow a newly married couple who are trying simultaneously to conceive a baby and star on a problematic HGTV show. Meanwhile, there's an alleged curse that's coming to disturb their relationship.

In a statement, Amy Israel, the executive vice president of scripted programming at Showtime, said Stone, the Safdies, and Fielder "promise to deliver a groundbreaking satire that is both unexpected and deeply human."

The Curse is set up with A24, which is also behind Showtime's Moonbase 8. Ravi Nandan will also executive produce.

Stone was last seen in a leading TV role for Netflix's Maniac, which co-starred Jonah Hill. She recently had a voice role in the animated The Croods: A New Age movie and is set to star as Cruella de Vil in a live-action film for Disney.

The Safdies received high critical praise for their work on Uncut Gems, which won three Independent Spirit Awards, including Best Director. Fielder executive produces the docu-comedy on HBO How To with John Wilson, which was recently renewed for a second season, and he also co-created and starred in the Comedy Central series Nathan For You.
