The Boys spinoff Gen V renewed for season 2: 'Sophomore year is gonna be wild'

The students of God U are staking their claim in The Boys universe.

Apparently people really like watching exploding genitalia, muppet massacres, and the like. Who knew? Oh wait, The Boys knew.

After rising to the top of the charts with the first half of its first season, The Boys college-set spinoff Gen V has been renewed for season 2, Amazon announced Thursday.

A writers' room with showrunner Michele Fazekas already launched earlier this year, and executive producer Eric Kripke, who leads the ever-growing Boys-verse, confirms in a statement with Fazekas that "the writers are already working on the new season."

"Sophomore year is gonna be wild, with all the twists, heart, satire, and exploding genitalia you've come to expect from the show," the joint statement said.

Starring Jaz Sinclair, Lizze Broadway, Chance Perdomo, London Thor, Derek Luh, Asa Germann, and Maddie Phillips, Gen V takes place after the events of The Boys season 3 at Godolkin University, America's premier college for young supes. Marie Moreau (Sinclair), who has the power to manipulate and weaponize blood, arrives at the so-nicknamed God U with dreams of one day joining the Seven. She meets Emma Meyers (Broadway), who can shrink and grow her size; Andre Anderson (Perdomo), who can manipulate metal; Jordan Li (Thor and Luh), who can shift their gender and access specific power sets from each form; and Cate (Phillips), who can mentally push people to do whatever she wants.

The premiere episode pulled a fast one by introducing Luke Riordan/Golden Boy (Patrick Schwarzenegger) as a main character only to have him die by suicide in a moment of distress, kicking off a season-long mystery. Marie and her classmates soon uncover the Woods, a secret facility underneath Godolkin where supe kids, including Luke's long-lost brother Sam (Germann), are held captive and used for experiments.

Gen V has featured multiple cameos from The Boys characters, with Jensen Ackles' Soldier Boy still on the docket. With season 4 of the mothership show on the horizon, Vernon Sanders, head of television at Amazon MGM Studios, previously told EW that the plan would be for both The Boys and Gen V to keep crossing over. "We think that if fans respond the way we've responded to Gen V we will have many more seasons of the show," he said. "In the master plan between Eric and Michele and Tara, I think these shows will continue to talk to each other in fun ways."

"We couldn't be happier to make a second season of Gen V," Fazekas and Kripke now say of the renewal news. "These are characters and stories we've grown to love, and we are thrilled to know people feel the same!"

Gen V continues to stream on Prime Video every Friday. The season 1 finale is set to drop Nov. 3.
