Larry King out of ICU after hospitalization for COVID-19

After being hospitalized with COVID-19, Larry King is out of the intensive care unit and is breathing on his own, EW has confirmed.

The talk show host has reportedly been in the hospital in Los Angeles for over a week after he tested positive for COVID-19. He was moved to the ICU on New Year's Eve and was receiving oxygen, David Theall, a spokesman for King's production company Ora Media, told the Associated Press. He is now breathing on his own but remains in the hospital.

King also got to have a video phone call with his three sons, Theall told the outlet. In a statement to EW, King's family said the host "continues to improve."

"He and his sons thank everyone for the outpouring of support and can't wait to get him home," the statement continued. "They also thank the medical workers and staff at Cedars-Sinai and hospitals elsewhere who are providing care to so many people under extraordinary circumstances."

The 87-year-old broadcaster is best known for hosting CNN's Larry King Live from 1985 to 2010, and he had been presenting Politicking With Larry King, which premiered in 2013.

In 2019, King suffered a stroke and later revealed it left him in a coma for "a couple of weeks." Previously, he was successfully treated for lung cancer in 2017 and suffered a major heart attack in 1987.
