Fourth time's a Drag

Prepare for brooms to give way to ShamWows and "facts are facts" to fall to "goopery," because the ladies of RuPaul's Drag Race All-Stars 4 (premiering Friday, Dec. 14 at 8 p.m. ET on VH1) are all glown up for their next sequined cycle in the Werk Room. And EW has an exclusive first look at the upcoming season of the Emmy-winning reality competition series, which will pit 10 former queens — Monét X Change, Latrice Royale, Trinity Taylor, Farrah Moan, Valentina, Monique Heart, Jasmine Masters, Naomi Smalls, Gia Gunn, and Manila Luzon — against each other for a spot in the Drag Race Hall of Fame. "The girls on All-Stars 4 are exciting and they have so much more to show," RuPaul tells EW, adding that the season ahead will serve as minor course correction after the All-Stars 3 finale sharply divided the rabid Drag Race fanbase. "I think it will shock fans, although I don’t think they’ll be as disappointed. We always try to do something fresh and interesting, and sometimes it turns out in a way that you don’t really expect. I love Trixie [Mattel]. She’s a real superstar, but I really didn’t count on the other girls who came back being so vindictive [and voting against Shangela]."

Monét X Change (Season 10, 6th place)

The mother of sponge eleganza sashayed into season 10 with a broom in hand, literally ready to sweep her foes away. On All-Stars, she upped her arsenal of cleaning products: “There will be some ShamWows and some yellow gloves. We’re still cleaning up the motherf—ing competition, girl,” she says, promising her “A-game on the runway” to make up for her fashion fiascos. “I wanted to pull the glamour out of me that RuPaul was so thirsty for, but I never gave her,” she explains. Glow-up on aisle 4!

Latrice Royale (Season 4, 4th place)

When mother speaks, you listen. And the grandest Drag Race dame returning for All-Stars 4 — her fourth Drag Race ride — wants the children’s lip-sync shenanigans to stop. “Looking like you’re in a refrigerator box with shoulder pads out to here? There’s no mystery that you’re going to take that off for a reveal,” Latrice Royale, who’s bringing “old school values” back to the competition, says of the performative stunts invading the main stage. “Get back to basics: Sing the song and tell the story.”

Latrice previously turned down the chance to appear on All-Stars 3 due to a conflict of interest with several contestants who were signed to her management roster, and she nearly turned down All-Stars 4, too. But she's back and she's not taking any nonsense.

"This whole new sisterly thing we got going on where everybody’s like ‘sis,’ that’s some bullsh—. You ain’t really my sister because my real sister would let me know the real tea," Latrice says, adding that she curated a lot of her Drag Race competitors' runway looks by telling the girls what worked and what didn't. "We hold on to those old school values…. I ain’t with this new fandango, kumbaya bullsh—. I want to know what you really think. Don’t tell me one thing in my face and say something else behind my back. We have a lot of that on All-Stars 4 [and that] warrants my response, because when you have an opportunity to say what you mean but don’t because you’re scared or you punk out, I’m gonna come for you for that."

Trinity Taylor (Season 9, 3rd place)

“I’m here to finish what I started,” the season 9 showgirl stresses. And she’s hoping her fashion evolution is a golden ticket to the Hall of Fame. The new threads aren’t “pageant-y or gaudy,” but rather “a little edgier and more fun.” Her new closet even evokes divine intervention: “I got on my knees and prayed to [my nun character] Sister Mary Koont. She blessed me,” Trinity says. As for her competition? “They’re all going to hell. There’s no saving those bitches.”

Farrah Moan (Season 9, 8th Place)

Farrah Moan’s All-Stars 4 mood board includes Swarovski crystals, pink, tears, and a distinct resistance to her own “whiny, obnoxious” persona. “Farrah Moan on All-Stars 4 is more of a force to be reckoned with. On season 9 I was so young and naïve [but] I definitely came for blood this season.” As for her once-rocky relationship with Valentina, Farrah says things are “pretty good” despite feeling like her season 9 sister “will never love” her. “There’s too much love for herself there.”

Valentina (Season 9, 7th Place)

The woman behind the mask-that-wouldn’t-come-off admits her “iconic elimination” provided “the perfect arc to continue” into All-Stars 4. “If I lip sync again, I’m going to have to redeem myself,” says Valentina, adding that she’s running on a “different maturity level” this season. “I was a baby queen who had no clue,” she remembers. “That moment is something I want to use to redeem myself and prove I’m a performer who loves the stage and owns the moment without getting stuck in my head.”

Valentina also echoes Farrah's sentiment that the beef between them is no more: "We were in Spain doing a gig together and I said, ‘Girlfriend, the world wants to pit us against each other, but I’m totally fine not being catty or speaking against you. I don’t have any drama with you. That reunion is over and if you’re willing to move forward and put it in the past, let’s just get over it because people are going to want to be petty about it, but between us if we now we’re fine, that’s all we’ve got,’" she says.

Monique Heart (Season 10, 8th place)

“TV was not television once I left, so duh,” Monique Heart says of why she’s back for All-Stars 4. Remembered as the queen with the most legendary catchphrases in Drag Race her-story, she’s again poised to shake up the show’s vocabulary. “Like the word of season 10 was ‘facts are facts,’ [this season] it’s ‘the goop,’’” Monique promises, adding that she’ll wear “other animals” in addition to “a few brown-cow-stunning moments.” Still, “when it comes to these eliminations,” Heart finishes, “I was gooped!” Whatever that means, we’re in.

Jasmine Masters (Season 7, 12th place)

Jasmine Masters has something to say about the new season of Drag Race: “We get a lot of jush in there. There’s a lot of jush going on, so you’re going to get your jush!” The fan-favorite meme queen also anticipates her “funny” personality will inspire more internet gold. “I didn’t know I was going to be a meme the first time! Whatever [the fans] make a meme out of, I’ll love them and share them,” she says. “I just let it roll.”

Naomi Smalls (Season 8, 2nd place)

The most sickening legs to grace the main stage are clicking back with a more assured glamazon in control. “I have a better understanding of how to play the game,” Naomi Smalls assures. “If it was about turning looks, bitch I would’ve gotten the crown a long time ago.” She also promises “good drama” across All-Stars 4: “Everyone in the cast — besides Farrah Moan — is pretty realistic about life [but] everyone’s more of a diva their second time around…. there are definitely some big egos, and I think I’m one of them.”

Gia Gunn (Season 6, 10th place)

Gia Gunn’s first Drag Race experience led to a creative rebirth, but it also allowed her to embrace her identity as a transwoman. “I’m more comfortable with my body and the way that I look,” she says. “If I hadn’t gone through my transition, I don’t think I would have been ready to come back.” Gia, who memorably battled with a wayward eyelash during her season 6 exit interview, assures there are no “malfunctions” this season: “She’s learned how to put on a lash!” One half-wink to that, sister!

Manila Luzon (Season 3, 2nd place)

Manila Luzon first sharpened her stilettos on season 3, back when Drag Race was still broadcast in standard definition. Since then, she says “drag has changed so much,” which poses a “new challenge” for the O-est OG of the All-Stars 4 sisterhood. “It’s growing up and learning new things and applying that to the competition,” she says of her approach. “It’s nice to come back and show what I’m capable of after I’ve had the opportunity to become a drag superstar.”
