Meet the new Masked Singers

It's that time again armchair detectives! A new season of The Masked Singer is here — and with it comes a whole slew of new costumes to overanalyze, fawn over, and (occasionally) run from in terror. In fact, this season has more costumes than ever before, with a whopping 22 different outfits disguising the celebrities underneath.

As is tradition, Fox has been slowly rolling out the new costumes, and EW is rounding up all of the reveals as they come in. Scroll through to see all of the wacky, hilarious, dreamy, and downright weird costumes, and tune in to the season 8 premiere on Sept. 21 to start figuring out who is under each mask.

Mermaid

Fans have been clamoring for this costume for years, and finally, here she is in all of her colorful, scaly glory. The face is admittedly a tad creepy, but the rest of Mermaid's look is fit for an underwater queen. It will be interesting to see if this contestant can actually get up and move around, or if they're confined to the rock because of the fins.

Snowstorm

Cue the Frozen guesses from the panelists. This snowflake-covered outfit looks like something only Elsa herself could dream up. Idina Menzel, is that you?

Gopher

Howdy, partner! Thanks to a cowboy hat and bolo tie, this little guy looks ready to take on a real Texas rodeo. Could the elongated neck be hiding an extra tall contestant? Or is its Southern-inspired getup a clue to this person's identity? Only time will tell.

Panther

Rawr! This fierce feline joins the ranks of past regal big cats on the show, from season 1's Lion to season 2's Leopard to season 3's White Tiger. With its royal blue cape and epic headdress, Panther is surely ready to pounce on the competition this year.

Knight

One of the more hilarious costumes this season, Knight features both a, well, knight in shining armor, as well as the golden goose that he or she rides on top of, making this costume truly something out of a fairytale.

Robo Girl

We've had a Robot (looking at you, Lil Wayne!), and now we get his female counterpart, complete with metal skirt and cute little red details. Here's to hoping there's nothing robotic about her performance(s)!

Hummingbird

This humdinger of a costume is ready to take flight on the Masked Singer stage! In lieu of feathers, this contestant is donning a colorful suit, vibrant wings, and a delightfully decorated nose.

Lambs

Little Bo Peep has lost her sheep, and three of them ended up on the Masked Singer stage. The dresses on these adorable costumes would put Scarlett O'Hara's to shame. Perhaps there's a clue hidden in all that fabric to the true identities of this famous trio.

Milkshake

Kelis, is that you? This fruity and milky confection looks cool enough to freeze the competition. And are those old school 3D glasses a clue to this person's true identity?

Beetle

Its red wings with black polka dots make it clear this costume is not just any beetle — it's a ladybug, thank you very much. Its bedazzled striped suit and bent antenna with an adorably awkward hair cut complete this fun look.

Fortune Teller

We're not sure if we should be in awe at this intricate costume, or very, very afraid of it. Either way, the attention to detail on the character itself and the surrounding booth is impressive, and its glowing crystal ball no doubt holds many secrets for viewers to uncover.

Maize

This costume is simply a-maize-ing! With the flapper-approved jeweled headband and sparkly green oversized coat, Maize is popping with that old Hollywood glam, much like Skunk did in season 6. Could we have another legendary diva on our hands?

Pi-Rat

Yes, you read that right. Masked Singer has gone all in on the puns with this costume, which looks fit to sail the seven seas faster than you can say, "Land ho!" The little caged rat is interesting, though — is this a duo of some kind or is the person a puppeteer maybe?

Harp

This gorgeous golden costume evokes season 4's Sun, who ended up being LeAnn Rimes. Fans will recall that Rimes was also the winner that season, so Harp could have some big shoes to fill, but only time will tell if this contestant has the pipes to go along with these beautiful chords.

Walrus

With its delightful raincoat, hat, and big goofy grin, Walrus looks like it could be the Paddington Bear of the sea. And is that an actual 'lil seagull on top of its head? We don't know who is under the mask, but one thing is sure: There's nothing fishy about this costume, which is sure to be a hit with the kiddos.

Scarecrow

Spooky season is almost here, and what better way to celebrate than this Halloween-ready costume? Its jack-o-lantern face and witchy hat have us wanting to get out the candy corn and fire up a scary movie. The different colored gloves are interesting though — could they perhaps be a clue of some sort?

Avocado

A fruit with Converse sneakers — we've truly seen it all. Between that and its emoji-like face, Avocado is really cute, and feels like a perfect costume for a younger performer. However, like with Broccoli from season 4, who ended up being Paul Anka, the youthful looks could be a fakeout. Only time will tell.

Bride

It's a bird! It's a plane! It's... Bridezilla? Technically the costume has only been dubbed the "Bride" by Fox, but the implications seem to be clear. Just make sure nobody tells her the caterer messed up the order or she might literally breathe fire.

Venus Fly Trap

From its roots all the way to its fly trap of a mouth, this costume is massive but so much fun. It's a little bit unclear where the performer's actual head is in all of that, but they're a trouper for wearing a costume of those proportions.

Hedgehog

This adorable costume looks ready to serenade you with a good ole show tune and give you a hug to boot. In fact, it's so cute, we're willing to hedge our bets that someone equally delightful is inside.

Sir Bugaboo

From its claws to its slightly terrifying grin to its unseemly sandals, this costume seems like something invented in the Mad Hatter's worst fever dream.

Mummies

This mummy trio is here just in time to help usher in Brendan Fraser's Hollywood comeback. With their pharaoh-approved headdresses, jeweled armor, and bandaged bodies, surely even Imhotep himself would approve of these costumes.
