The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live trailer shows Rick Grimes back in action

And he appears to be working for the CRM.

We finally have our first real look at the most anticipated Walking Dead spinoff yet, as the official trailer for The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live (which premieres Feb. 25) has been released by AMC – and it is full of our heroes Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne (Danai Gurira) slicing, dicing, and taking down walkers.

And that is not the only action on display. We also see helicopters blowing up buildings, zombies on fire, a city being decimated — it seems as if the Civic Republic Military has been very busy indeed.

Perhaps the biggest takeaway is that Rick appears to be working for the CRM. Against his will, perhaps, but we not only see him in the CRM three-ring jacket that first made its appearance at the end of The Walking Dead series finale, but we also see him culling walkers at the gate and having a meeting with the leader of the Civic Republic Military, Major General Beale (played by Terry O’Quinn.)

“I'm just going to ask you a question, Grimes,” says Beale in the trailer. “Look in your eyes. Why are you here? Do you want to kill, or do you want to die?” To which Grimes responds: “Look at my eyes, sir. You tell me.”

This exchange falls in line with what O’Quinn told EW to expect between Beale and Grimes on the show: “When he starts dealing with Rick, we don't know exactly what to do with him, or who he is, or what he is,” says O’Quinn. “And so he plays coy with Rick a lot, and I think there's a lot to be found out there. So Rick helps discover the heart of the man, I think.”

Also of note in the trailer is not only the presence of Pollyanna McIntosh’s Jadis (who went from bad to good to bad again over the course of The Walking Dead and The Walking Dead: World Beyond), but a lingering shot of a mysteriously helmeted helicopter pilot. Could this be Isabelle from Fear the Walking Dead or someone else from the franchise’s past?

“We can make this whole damn world ours if we want to,” says Gurira’s Michonne to close out the trailer (which can be viewed above). The latest chapter of that journey begins Feb. 25.
