We are very proud of our professionals Arley Rodrigues da Silva, Leonardo Silva and Marcos Paulo Nobrega, who successfully helped improve the operation and asset maintenance processes of the Garden of Eden II Plant, located in Georgetown, Guyana, and is generating 46 MW of energy for the country.   The project started with training the plant supervision team on the MAXIMO asset management platform. In the training, supervisors learn how to navigate the system, enter and manage asset data, schedule preventive maintenance, analyse reports, and make decisions based on the information provided by the platform. In addition, they are prepared to help troubleshoot issues, monitor asset performance and ensure compliance with established guidelines. 📊   The second stage was the analysis of equipment performance, carried out by a multidisciplinary team of mechanics (Leonardo Silva) and electrical (Marcos Paulo Nobrega). By combining knowledge, the team can identify patterns, trends and possible improvements that can help boost the operational efficiency and reliability of the plant's assets, which operate with five Wärtsilä 34DF engines. ⚙️   A huge shout out to this amazing team who went above and beyond to improve our operations and maintenance processes. Congratulations on the 60-day work initiative and its positive impact on the Guyanese power system. 👏   Wärtsilä Brasil#Guyana #EnergyTransition #FuelYourPower

In the words of our very own Roger Holm, President of Wärtsilä Marine and EVP of Wärtsilä: “We need to future-proof the shipping industry.” As an industry responsible for transporting over 80% of world trade, maritime shipping serves as the lifeblood of the global economy. However, in just 25 years – the lifetime of a single vessel – shipping needs to get to net zero emissions. This week, Roger joined Sumit Bose, founder and host of the Net Hero podcast, to discuss the challenges and opportunities faced by shipping in line with current and upcoming regulations and policies, as well as the solutions available today for ship operators to make emission cuts.🎙️ In particular, Roger highlighted the importance of investing in fuel flexibility: “Recently, we have gone from a single-fuel environment to a multi-fuel environment. [New engine technology] gives you the flexibility to change the ship during the lifetime of the vessel, which is necessary for us to get to net zero by 2050. You can invest in a ship now that runs on LNG today and then when green fuels become widely available, you can convert the engine to run on green methanol or green ammonia, for example.” Watch the full podcast here: https://lnkd.in/epDZv2w4 #NetZero #decarbonisation #innovation #NetZero #LNG

#ThrowbackThursday In celebration of our 190th anniversary, we're taking a nostalgic trip down memory lane to revisit some of the pivotal moments that have shaped our journey. Around 1984, Wärtsilä made a groundbreaking leap from sea to land when a team of engineers in Vaasa, Finland, realised that marine engines could also be used to generate electricity, and this could be done on dry land. This was one of the most important technological innovations of our history and it paved the way for our expansion into decentralised energy production and the power plant business. Gas-operated versions of heavy-fuel oil engines were developed, providing Wärtsilä with advanced expertise in using gas in a broader sense. Our marine know-how was later utilised in floating power plants, with some 30 such facilities built and towed to the far reaches of the world. The power plant business changed Wärtsilä’s business model. We went from just selling technology to becoming a comprehensive solutions partner. Rather than simply building and selling facilities, Wärtsilä adopted an approach based on our customer’s long-term needs and goals, shifting our focus to the service business and comprehensive solutions. #Wartsila190 #history

We were honoured to take part in the 2024 Global Energy Transition Congress and Exhibition. GET Congress is an inspiring event where international energy ministers, CEOs, and global business leaders from across the energy value chain meet to drive decarbonisation. Our President & CEO Håkan Agnevall shared the critical agenda stage with partners from the Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping and other leaders from across the global marine industry to discuss the decarbonisation journey. The shift to a multi-fuel future is high on Wärtsilä’s agenda. 💙 ⚓ Our General Manager Stefano Furlan took to the PROJECT X-CHANGE stage to present how the Canadian ferry operator Seaspan ULC Ferries slashed the well-to-wake carbon intensity of its vessels by an impressive 90% 👏 👏 Collaboration is vital in the journey to decarbonising marine, and our invitation to speak and learn at cross-industry events makes it possible!
