Brad Pitt gets behind the wheel for F1, from Top Gun: Maverick director Joseph Kosinski. Here’s the first trailer.

There is a great tradition of taking the high octane world of Formula 1 racing to the big screen, from the terrific 2010 documentary Senna to the dramatisation of the lives of Niki Lauder and James Hunt, as played by Daniel Bruhl and Chris Hemsworth, in 2013 drama Rush.

This weekend saw thousands of people descend on Silverstone to watch the British Grand Prix. But it wasn’t just the world’s greatest drivers and their fans. Brad Pitt was also in town to shoot scenes at the racetrack for F1.

The synopsis reads as follows:

Sonny Hayes (Brad Pitt), a Formula One driver who raced in the 1990s, has a horrible crash, forcing him to retire from Formula One and start racing in other disciplines. A Formula One team owner and friend contacts Hayes and asks him to come out of retirement to mentor rookie prodigy Joshua Pearce (Damson Idris) on the Apex Grand Prix team (APXGP).

If the tagline for this film isn’t ‘Get ready for a Pitt stop’, Warner Bros and Apple Original Films are missing a trick.

The cast also includes Kerry Condon, Tobias Menzies, Javier Bardem, Sarah Niles, Samson Kayo, Kim Bodnia and professional F1 drivers Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen. Hamilton is also co-producing the film through his company Dawn Apollo Films. It also brings Jerry Bruckheimer back to racing films – Bruckheimer co-produced the 1990 Tom Cruise NASCAR film Days Of Thunder.

Joseph Kosinski, who scored a huge hit in 2022 with Top Gun: Maverick, directs from a screenplay by Ehren Kruger.

F1 will be released in UK cinemas on the 27th June 2025.

Pitt will next be seen onscreen reuniting with George Clooney, they play rival hitmen in Jon Watts’ action comedy Wolfs.
