The freedom to grow with confidence.

À propos

Women Forward. For a Fairer Future. Chloé is a leading luxury Parisian fashion house, embodying a forward-looking yet timeless style and natural femininity. The Maison was founded in 1952 by Gaby Aghion, an Egyptian-born Parisian who wanted to liberate women’s bodies from the stiff and formal fashion of the era through her luxury ready-to-wear offering. Since then, the Maison has entrusted a succession of emerging talents to further Aghion’s vision, including Karl Lagerfeld, Stella McCartney, Phoebe Philo, Hannah MacGibbon, Clare Waight Keller, Natacha Ramsay-Levi, Gabriela Hearst and the current creative director, Chemena Kamali. The Maison is committed to creating beautiful products while adopting responsible environmental and social practices. You can read more about our commitments in our Report, available on chloe.com. In October 2021, Chloé received B Corp certification, marking a new stage in the Maison’s transformation.

Chapter 2: Post-War Paris In 1945, Gaby and her husband Raymond arrived on a troop transport ship in Toulon, in the South of France. Following the end of World War II, France and its values – liberty and equality – held great appeal for the young couple. For Gaby, especially: “Paris and Parisian elegance are mythic.” Raymond Aghion, a free-thinker engaged in progressive politics, joined the artistic and intellectual social circles of the Left Bank, while Gaby’s interest in existentialism ignited her entrepreneurial ambitions; not out of necessity, “but for the pleasure of accomplishing something by myself,” – said Gaby. Chapter 1: Our Founder In 1952, Gaby Aghion, an Egyptian-born Parisian, launched the French fashion Maison #Chloé. Gaby wanted to offer women an alternative to the formal and restrictive haute couture fashions in post-war Paris. With Chloé, she established a fresh new dress code, dubbed luxury prêt-à-porter, and her youthful, feminine silhouettes captured a new optimistic mood. Gabriella Aghion, née Hanoka, was born on the 3rd of March, 1921, in Alexandria, Egypt. This Mediterranean city was a thriving cosmopolis with a long history of being open to all civilizations, and customs. Gaby’s parents were among its well-educated residents, inspired by the European way of life, and French, Italian and English were all spoken at home. They embraced a western lifestyle, influenced no doubt by the history of colonial rule, and family photographs from her youth show Gaby and her friends, girls and boys altogether, riding bikes or at the beach under the sun-drenched skies of Egypt. Her freedom, spontaneity and joy informed the spirit of Chloé and became integral to the identity of the Maison. Image Credits: Gaby in Alexandria, Egypt, circa 1940 Aghion family archive

#Chloé was established in 1952 by Gaby Aghion, whose intuitive, modern designs made her a women’s ally. Continuing her legacy today, Chloé supports several NGOs and social enterprises that work to close the gender gap via donations, volunteering time and supply chain orders. Each year, Chloé offers its employees the opportunity to undertake 16 hours of volunteer work with NGOs whose purposes align with those of the Maison. In 2024, we aim to complete 2,200 volunteering hours worldwide. To help us reach this target, July 16th marked the first Chloé Volunteering Day held at our Paris headquarters in partnership with Unis-Cité Solidarité Entreprises. The local teams had the opportunity to participate in activities proposed by seven NGOs on three topics: women's advancement, social inclusion, and environmental protection. Thank you to all 124 participants who logged 570 hours of volunteering throughout the day. You touched the lives of 584 beneficiaries through activities such as coaching and personal care sessions, the preparation of hygiene kits, and household handiwork.

Introducing #Chloé Arts: an initiative continuing the house’s legacy of female empowerment. Its mission is to celebrate the achievement of outstanding female talent, nurture selected emerging artists, and create unexpected interdisciplinary conversations across different fields of the Arts.   For this first edition, Chloé and Chemena Kamali invite the Danish artist Mie Olise Kjærgaard.   Kjærgaard works in painting, occasionally sculptural objects and installation. Her large scale paintings depict subjects of female liberation — women who tore off the corset to ride a bike, play tennis or music. Women who dare, living their lives as subjects, experiencing life from the inside out, women seen through the female gaze. #Chloe #ChloeArts #ChemenaKamali
