Flyers, Lightning backup goalies looking for first wins

Steve Mason and Ben Bishop led their teams to the playoffs and are having to sit in the press box as their teams try to win without them.

So far, the Philadelphia Flyers’ Ray Emery and Tampa Bay Lightning’s Anders Lindback are seeking their first wins of the playoffs heading into today’s games.

Mason (suspected head injury) and Bishop (elbow) have been on the ice, but neither is ready to go.

According to Twitter reports, Lindback was the first goalie off the ice on Sunday morning, meaning he’s the expected starter.

The only reason that was in question was that Lindback was pulled in his last game. But Kristers Gudlevskis, despite his heroics at the Olympics, has only two games of NHL experience, including mop-up duty after Lindback yielded a goal to Brendan Gallagher.

Lindback is 0-2 in the playoffs with a 3.69 goals-against average and an .881 save percentage. He finished the regular season with an .891 save percentage, which had been lower before he won his final three regular-season game.

Emery, meanwhile, will back in the Flyers’ net for the second consecutive game. Emery, who went to the Stanley Cup Final in 2007 with the Ottawa Senators, gave up four goals on 36 shots in an opening loss to the New York Rangers.
