Madison Bumgarner made up for a shaky start on the mound with his bat Friday.

After a long sacrifice fly in the third, there was no doubt on this one.

The San Francisco Giants’ starting pitcher went back to left field (way back to left field), hitting the third home run of his career, a grand slam that left the ballpark in a hurry. That’s five runs accounted for in two innings, as Bumgarner supported his own cause against the Colorado Rockies’ Jorge De La Rosa.

Bumgarner started his victory trot around the bases as soon as he hit the ball, as if he’d done it before a hundred times. His .142 career average says otherwise.

At the end of the fourth, the score was Bumgarner 5, Rockies 3.
