Last week, the Nashville Predators informed longtime head coach Barry Trotz that they would not be renewing his contract.

Trotz is the only coach the franchise has known in its 16-year history, but after failing to make the postseason the past two years, GM David Poile decided it was time to move in a new direction.

This Sunday, Trotz took out a full page ad in The Tennessean thanking the city, the fans, Poile and the team’s ownership for the opportunity to coach.

It’s an incredibly classy move. Trotz goes on to say that he hopes the community will continue to support the charitable organizations Best Buddies and My Friends House that are “near and dear” to his heart.

The good news is Barry Trotz shouldn’t be unemployed for long. According to Kevin Allen, there are number of NHL teams that should consider a coaching change and Trotz should be a name that first comes to mind.
