Rick Pitino’s son, Richard Pitino, coached Minnesota against SMU in the finals of the NIT on Thursday night. The Golden Gophers made it to the big game (well sort of big game) by defeating Florida State earlier this week. Because Louisville is not in the Final Four, the elder Pitino got to check out the semifinal game — and even came into the locker room to hear his son’s postgame speech on Tuesday night.
He certainly looks happier than the time he watched Minnesota while sitting next to his other son, Ryan, who was wearing a chicken suit.
Minnesota beat SMU, 65-63 for the title, which Pitino watched from the stands.
