Hammerhead sharks in Florida stalked kayakers for two miles

Brian Nelli was kayaking with a friend off the coast in South Florida last week when his friend looked behind him and noticed an inquisitive visitor: A hammerhead shark.

Nelli, who runs a kayak charter business, assumed the shark was a few feet behind. But when he turned around the shark was up against his kayak — and bumping it with his head.

“Most people’s reactions (would be) to kind of get away from it,” he told For The Win. “But my reaction was to grab a camera.”

Nelli dropped a GoPro camera into the water as the hammerhead sharks followed them for about two miles before peeling off closer to shore. Nelli said he wasn’t scared — the shark didn’t seem aggressive — but after awhile the excitement of trying to film the sharks wore off. “Then its like maybe I should concentrate on not falling out of the boat,” he said.
