How each team in the AFC North can still win the division

With three games left in the regular season, it’s still very crowded in the AFC North, where all four teams could still ostensibly win the division.

That will be a tougher task for the 7-6 Cleveland Browns after their heartbreaking loss to the Colts on Sunday, but not out of the realm of possibility. After Pittsburgh’s 42-21 win over Cincinnati, both the Steelers and Bengals control their own destiny, as they’ll face each other at Heinz Field in Week 17.

While all four teams are also still in the mix for both AFC wild card spots, here’s what it would take for each team to clinch the AFC North and at least one home game in January.

Disclaimer: It goes without saying that any additional ties in this division would completely force this entire projection to have to be reconfigured.

Cincinnati Bengals (8-4-1)

The easiest way: Win their next three games (at Cleveland, Denver, at Pittsburgh)

Other scenarios for a Cincinnati AFC North title:
If they beat Cleveland and Denver and lose at Pittsburgh: Baltimore and Pittsburgh must also lose one of their next three games.

If they beat Cleveland, lose to Denver and beat Pittsburgh: Baltimore must also lose one of their next three games.

If they lose to Cleveland and beat Denver and Pittsburgh: The same scenario as above.

If they lose to Cleveland and Denver and beat Pittsburgh: Baltimore will need to lose their Week 15 and 16 games, Pittsburgh will have to lose either their Week 15 or 16 game and Cleveland will have to lose to Carolina in Week 16.

If they lose to Cleveland and Pittsburgh and beat Denver: Everyone else has to lose their non-divisional games.

If they beat Cleveland and lose to Denver and Pittsburgh: Pittsburgh needs to lose in Week 15 and 16 and Baltimore needs to lose two of its last three.

Pittsburgh Steelers (8-5)

Easiest scenario: Win their next three games (at Atlanta, Kansas City, Cincinnati)

Other scenarios for a Pittsburgh AFC North title:
If they beat Atlanta and Kansas City and lose to Cincinnati: Cincinnati must lose in Week 15 and 16, Baltimore must lose in Week 15 and 16 and then beat Cleveland in Week 17, unless Cleveland loses to Carolina in Week 16.

If they lose to Atlanta and beat Kansas City and Cincinnati: Cincinnati must lose in Week 15 and 16. Baltimore needs to lose in either Week 15 or 16 and beat Cleveland in Week 17, unless Cleveland loses to Carolina in Week 16.

If they beat Atlanta, lose to Kansas City and beat Cincinnati: The same scenario as the last one applies.

If they lose to Atlanta and Kansas City and beat Cincinnati: Cincinnati and Baltimore must both lose in Week 15 and 16 and Baltimore must beat Cleveland in Week 17.

Baltimore Ravens (8-5)

The easiest scenario: Win their next three games (Jacksonville, at Houston, Cleveland) and have Pittsburgh and Cincinnati each lose one of their next three.

Other scenarios for a Baltimore AFC North title:

If they lose to Jacksonville but beat Houston and Cleveland: Cincinnati needs to lose to either Cleveland or Denver and Pittsburgh needs to lose in Week 15 and 16 but beat Cincinnati in Week 17.

If they lose to Houston but beat Jacksonville and Cleveland: The same scenario as the last one applies.

If they lose to Cleveland but beat Houston and Jacksonville: Cincinnati needs to lose to either Cleveland or Denver. Pittsburgh has to lose in Week 15 and 16 but beat Cincinnati. Cleveland must lose to Carolina in Week 16 if they beat Cincinnati in Week 15.

If they lose to Jacksonville and Houston but beat Cleveland: Cincinnati must lose their next three games and Pittsburgh must lose their next two.

Cleveland Browns (7-6)

Easiest scenario: Win their next three games (Cincinnati, at Carolina, at Baltimore) and have Pittsburgh lose to Atlanta or Kansas City.

Other scenarios for a Browns AFC North title:
If they win their final three games: If Cincinnati loses to Denver, Baltimore wins in Week 15 and 16 and Cincinnati beats Pittsburgh in Week 17, the Browns would win a three-way tiebreak among the fellow 10-6 Steelers and Ravens.

If they beat Cincinnati and Baltimore but lose to Carolina: Pittsburgh and Baltimore would both have to lose in Week 15 and 16 and Cincinnati would have to lose in Week 16 and 17.
