Who are you and what have you done with the 49ers?

There are some bad teams in the NFL.

The Washington Redskins are bad. So are the New York Jets. Some thought the Oakland Raiders wouldn’t win a single game this season.

And then there are 49ers. The pride of San Francisco. Perennial NFC title game contender. A team 43-17 under its head coach.

Does this sound like a dumpster fire to you?

It is. Unmistakably, the San Francisco 49ers as we know them are disintegrating before our very eyes in a blazing inferno of self loathing.

Who’s got it better than us?

Everyone. After Sunday’s 24-13 loss to the Raiders, even Oakland has it better.

Jim Harbaugh made a decision in 2012 to go with Colin Kaepernick as his quarterback. It was a decision that put the 49ers into the Super Bowl. It was the right decision and there isn’t a soul on this planet who would have told you differently at the time. Kaepernick is now tanking like JC Penny stock. His performance was lackluster – like most of his performances of late. His offense is averaging less than a touchdown in the second half of games, and hasn’t had a multiple touchdown performance in seven weeks. Almost half of Kaepernick’s passes end in incompletions.

A once promising young quarterback under the tutelage of one of the great quarterback coaches is now a drowning young quarterback, and that coach is out the door in three weeks.

San Francisco won’t be making the NFC Championship for a fourth consecutive year. Not this time. Facing Seattle, San Diego, and Arizona to finish the season, there’s a strong possibility the 49ers won’t finish above .500 for the first time since 2010.

Harbaugh has a foot out the door. Kaepernick is in the midst of an identity crisis, which appears destined to end with the realization he should have stuck with baseball.

San Francisco is in shambles and it isn’t getting better anytime soon.
