Erik Karlsson notches 100th career goal by banking puck off a Penguin

As a kid, you dream about all the lofty milestones you’ll hit in your NHL career. Usually you imagine achieving them yourself, but sometimes you need a little help.

Like, say, from your opponent!

Ottawa Senators defenseman Erik Karlsson, a two-time Norris Trophy winner and widely regarded as one of the top-two blue liners in the NHL today, earned his 100th goal on Tuesday night against the Pittsburgh Penguins. But he probably didn’t imagine it happening quite like this.

As you can see, the puck is shot by Karlsson but then takes a nice big bounce off Patrick Hornqvist’s skate and…well, it still counts!

We could probably qualify that as as good – and as big – a bank shot as you’ll see in this league. It also made Karlsson just the 18th defenseman in NHL history to record 80 points in a season.

Unfortunately Karlsson’s goal didn’t help the Sens get a win; they fell 5-3 to the Penguins.
