UConn women’s seniors knighted each other with a sword after winning fourth straight title

UConn women’s basketball steamrolled Syracuse to win its fourth consecutive NCAA championship on Tuesday, which had never been done before. After the win, the three seniors, who have gone 151-5 in their college careers, knighted each other with a sword on the trophy presentation stage.

They used a Marine saber that was presented to their coach, Geno Auriemma, and they placed it on each other’s shoulders in their victory celebration. Morgan Tuck was asked to explain the significance of the sword, but instead of doing that, she went right on with the knighting:

“In the name of UConn women’s basketball, I knight Breanna Stewart and Moriah Jefferson as the great UConn women’s basketball players.”

Then, Jefferson knighted Tuck. Incredible.

An earlier version of this headline misstated the number of titles.
