Iga Swiatek's stunning Wimbledon loss to Yulia Putintseva leaves the women's field wide open

Iga Świątek entered Wimbledon’ singles tournament fresh off her fourth French Open title but with some known struggles on the grass at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club. Those concerns proved valid once again on Saturday as Yulia Putintseva — the 35th player in the world — downed Świątek in three sets (3-6, 6-1, 6-2) in the third round of play.

Świątek (+400) was by far the public betting favorite to win her first Wimbledon singles title. She accounted for 20.7 percent of all wagers on the women’s side of the bracket at BetMGM as well as 34.6 percent of all money wagered on the outright winner.

But the odds were even more in Świątek’s favor on Saturday, where the native of Poland was -769 to advance to the fourth round. Putintseva was +500 as an underdog — a pretty solid payday for anyone brave enough to bet against the world No. 1.

With Świątek’s exit, American Coco Gauff becomes the new favorite to win the tournament at +240 followed closely by Elena Rybakina (+275).
