Press and Media

Welcome to the Press and Media Centre for Glasgow 2024, supporting members of the press and creators of online media who are covering the convention. Here you will find downloadable copies of all of our official media releases, and other useful material about Glasgow 2024. If you would like to talk with us or arrange an interview, please email us at press@glasgow2024.org.

Statement of Support

Glasgow 2024 will actively support members of the press and writers for online media who are covering the convention before, during, and after the event. We aim to provide information about this convention specifically, and about Worldcon, science fiction conventions, and the science fiction and fantasy genre in general.

Press Policy and Accreditation

Our policy for attending press can be found here. This includes information on how to apply for Press Passes and Press Credentials.

Press Office

Our Press Office will be open throughout the convention:

The physical Press Office will be located just off the SEC Concourse, next to the door for Entrance 5B of Hall 5.  You will see the Convention Office to the left of Hall 5B entrance, and a small hallway behind that office.  Take a left into the hallway, then a right into room 5.2, the Press Office.

The press office will be open for the following hours:

  • Wednesday, 7 August  10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
  • Thursday, 8 August  10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
  • Friday, 9 August  10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
  • Saturday, 10 August 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
  • Sunday, 11 August 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
  • Monday, 12 August 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. (additional afternoon hours will be added if necessary).

If you find the Press Office unstaffed during these hours (e.g. while we are providing guided tours), look for signage telling you how to contact us.

Information for Attending Press

We will keep our website up to date as the convention approaches, providing information to help you move around the event as well as the full event schedule and a list of attendees. We recommend you bookmark this page as the starting point for press and media information.

  • The full convention schedule will be published along ,with the full list of programme participants, on 1st August.
  • Programming will start at 11 a.m. on Thursday 8 August.
  • For information on our Special Events, see this section of the website.
  • For selected Convention Highlights, see this page.

If you have any questions about covering Worldcon, please write to press@glasgow2024.org. The final Progress Report contains many useful maps and information about Registration.  During the convention, you might also find helpful information on the convention’s Social Media.

If you are attending the convention, please ensure that you are familiar with our Code of Conduct. This applies to everyone who is present at the event, including participants, staff, members and of course representatives of the press! Please be respectful of our attendees, guests and participants; while many people are happy to talk to or be photographed by the press, not everyone is.  Always ask before taking photos or videos of individuals. Specific permission should be sought for photographing the displays in the Art Show.

Registering as Press

(Please read the Attending Press Policy for context before continuing with this section).

We encourage all attending Press to contact the Press Office, preferably before the convention, if you plan to cover the event. To register with the Press Office, follow this link.

If you have Press Credentials (i.e. you are a regular attending convention member who is also representing the press or media), or if you have a multi-day complementary Press Pass, then you will need to collect your Membership Badge from registration when you arrive at the convention. Once you have done this, you should go to the Press Office in Room 5.2 (see above) to check in, collect your press ribbon, and obtain any other information that you need.

If you are attending the event for a short period on assignment, and you have a pre-approved Press Pass, or have not been in touch with the Press team before the convention, come directly to the Press Office in Room 5.2. DO NOT GO TO MAIN REGISTRATION. We will provide you with a temporary pass for the duration of your visit; this will need to be returned to the Press Office before you leave the site.

Press Conference – 8 August

On Thursday, 8 August at 11 a.m. in the Castle Suite in the Crowne Plaza, we will be holding an informal Press Conference.  All members of the press are invited to attend; you do not have to register beforehand, although it will be helpful if you could let us know so that we can plan appropriately. If you plan to attend the Press Conference, please email us at press@glasgow2024.org.

As part of the Press Conference you will be able to speak with Worldcon management and selected Guests and programme participants.  Refreshments will be provided.

Following the Press Event, the Exhibit Hall will be open at Noon for a guided press tour. The Exhibit Hall has a wide array of things to see, including an Art Show, Costume Exhibit, Dealers’ Room and a Batmobile.

Arranging Interviews

If you would like to interview guests or other panelists (writers, editors, artists), write to press@glasgow2024.org so we can see what we can set up for you.  A partial list of programme participants can be found here. The full list will be published along with the full programme schedule on 1st August.
