Diverse Children's Books Standing Outside on a Bench

Take action to change the picture book industry.

Join us in advocating for the many more diverse children's books still needed.

OurShelves curates quarterly diverse children's book boxes.

We send you high-quality diverse children’s books that feature racially and ethnically diverse, LGBTQ+, disabled, feminist, and other characters and families currently under-represented in kids’ books.

We advocate for the existing diverse children's books under attack during unprecedented book bans as well as the many more diverse children's books still needed. We do so, in part, by proving the significant audience for such books through our growing membership and bulk purchasing.

Our Curation Team sets us apart.

Our team brings expertise from academia, librarianship, teaching, psychology, child development, anti-oppression work, and parenting to our book review process. 100% of the team has the lived experience of being under-represented in children's books.

To advocating for more diverse books

Be counted. Publishers will create
more of these divere kids' books as they understand just how many of us there are.

Our members love OurShelves!

Broadening the scope of where my students can identify themselves within their own library gives me hope and confidence that they will then broaden the scope of where they will place themselves in their lives and communities as they grow older.

Barbara Haake
Montessori Teacher

Our son has a subscription and has loved every book he's gotten. As a mixed race kid (who loves books!) with a Black daddy and queer mama, we try to be intentional that he is seeing not only characters and families like his, but also a variety of identities and experiences beyond his--racially and ethnically diverse characters, LGBTQ+, diverse religions and abilities, etc.

Kaite D.
Parent

The company is easy to work with and very compassionate and kind. We love it so much I just ordered a subscription for our nephew!
