Tiger Tracker: Shot-by-shot recap from Tiger Woods' final round of WGC-Mexico

Orlando Ramirez-USA TODAY Sports

Tiger Woods is 6 under overall and looking for a top-10 finish Sunday in the final round of the WGC-Mexico Championship. We’ll be tracking every shot from Woods’ final round. Follow below.

Hole 18: Par 4, 388 yards

OFF THE TEE (4:56 p.m.): Nothing fancy here, in the fairway and 167 yards left for his final approach.

APPROACH SHOT (5:02 p.m.): That’s a nice iron shot to finish the day, going to have a chance at a closing birdie. A make would get him in the clubhouse at T-7 and no matter what a top-10 showing this week is nothing to scoff at.

ON THE GREEN (5:06 p.m.): No dice. Left it a little short and he’ll tap in for a closing par. See you at Bay Hill.

TIGER ON THE DAY: 2-under 69 (8 under overall)

Hole 17: Par 3, 156 yards

OFF THE TEE (4:47 p.m.): Not great and not much expression on his face as he heads to the green. Went long and into the fringe, might be a little tricky from there.

ON THE GREEN (4:53 p.m.): Took a stab at it and ran it past the hole a bit, going to need to make a putt here to save par. He makes that 7-footer to avoid bogey and we’re on to the final hole of the week.

TIGER ON THE DAY: 2 under thru 16 (8 under overall)

Hole 16: Par 4, 390 yards

OFF THE TEE (4:34 p.m.): Goes with an iron here and in the fairway no problem. Just 158 yards left to a gettable pin placement and definitely going to get aggressive with this one.

APPROACH SHOT (4:38 p.m.): Yup. Right at the pin and stopped it just long, won’t have much left for birdie from there. Let’s see if he can put a few together on his way out of town.

ON THE GREEN (4:44 p.m.): Looked like an awfully hesitant stroke there and never came close to the hole from five feet. Think he’ll be ready to put this round in the books and move on. But hard to be too discouraged when you’re T-9 and putting this poorly.

TIGER ON THE DAY: 2 under thru 16 (8 under overall)

Hole 15: Par 5, 576 yards

OFF THE TEE (4:12 p.m.): Caught a break there, missed to the right but got a bounce off a tree and into the fairway. Just 265 yards out and yet another to get some strokes back.

APPROACH SHOT (4:17 p.m.): Pretty impressive right there. Cut a fairway wood toward the green and landed it on the back portion, rolled over and into the fringe. Should have at least a look at eagle coming up.

AROUND THE GREEN (4:27 p.m.): Came out a little weird from the fringe and never got to the cup. Looks like 6-7 feet left for birdie from there.

ON THE GREEN (4:31 p.m.): Only five feet left for birdie and he missed it. Another lip out. Gotta be frustrating but he’s been able to keep the rest of the game firmly in check.

TIGER ON THE DAY: 2 under thru 15 (8 under overall)

Hole 14: Par 4, 507 yards

OFF THE TEE (4:01 p.m.): Missed it to the right a little bit but shouldn’t be too horrible. If the lie is alright he can probably go after this one.

APPROACH SHOT (4:06 p.m.): Rough wasn’t an issue, well played from there. Short of the cup and will have 16 feet left for a second consecutive circle on the scorecard.

ON THE GREEN (4:09 p.m.): No dice. Just can’t get anything to fall today. Two-putt par and coming down the home stretch now.

TIGER ON THE DAY: 2 under thru 14 (8 under overall)

Hole 13: Par 3, 221 yards

OFF THE TEE (3:47 p.m.): All over it. Sounds like he was pretty heated coming off that missed birdie putt but recovered with a beautiful 6-iron here. Just about 5 feet left for birdie and gotta think he’s due for one of them to fall.

ON THE GREEN (3:53 p.m.): Hey hey! Finally gets one to fall and drains it from inside 5 feet for birdie, his first since the second hole. Hard to believe he’s missed four putts from inside five feet this week, but no problem on that one.

TIGER ON THE DAY: 2 under thru 13 (8 under overall)

Hole 12: Par 4, 403 yards

OFF THE TEE (3:38 p.m.): He got all of that one. Hammered 375 yards and into the left rough just shy of a greenside bunker. Guess that’s the play here.

AROUND THE GREEN (3:40 p.m.): Chipped it inside five feet and that’ll be just fine.

ON THE GREEN (3:42 p.m.): Woof. Lipped out from four feet and it’s crazy how many short putts he’s missed the past two weeks. Think we know what he’ll be focusing on next week before bay Hill.

TIGER ON THE DAY: 1 under thru 11 (7 under overall)

Hole 11: Par 5, 625 yards

OFF THE TEE (3:15 p.m.): Crushed that one 350-plus into the middle of the fairway. Might be thinking potential eagle from there.

APPROACH SHOT (3:19 p.m.): Another really good swing and he caught the front right side of the green. So he will have an eagle try here, albeit a long one.

ON THE GREEN (3:29 p.m.): Left it well short, maybe 8-9 feet left for a birdie here. Just hasn’t been able to get anything going since the birdie-birdie start. Missed the birdie try as well and taps in for another par.

TIGER ON THE DAY: 1 under thru 11 (7 under overall)

Hole 10: Par 4, 442 yards

OFF THE TEE (2:56 p.m.): Smooth sailing and another fairway as he makes the turn. Took an iron and liked it right away. Just 166 yards remaining from there.

APPROACH SHOT (3:02 p.m.): Beauty. Pitching wedge comes in nice and tight and another good birdie chance coming up.

ON THE GREEN (3:10 p.m.): Can’t get it to fall from 10 feet, looked like a misread there. Taps in for par and we’re on to the next.

TIGER ON THE DAY: 1 under thru 10 (7 under overall)

Hole 9: Par 4, 376 yards

OFF THE TEE (2:43 p.m.): Didn’t need anything more than iron off this tee. Only hit it 226 yards but that leaves him in the middle of the fairway and 152 yards out.

APPROACH SHOT (2:47 p.m.): Not happy with that one. It’s on the green but way left of the flag, not his best work with a 9-iron.

ON THE GREEN (2:50 p.m.): Doesn’t go but that’s another solid lag putt. Tap-in par and this is a good way to build some confidence on the greens going into an off week.

TIGER ON THE DAY: 1 under thru 9 (7 under overall)

Hole 8: Par 4, 517 yards

OFF THE TEE (2:23 p.m.): Pulls driver and hates it. That one sailed way left on him, we’ll see what the lie looks like but seems like it’ll be a challenge to make par from here.

APPROACH SHOT (2:28 p.m.): Punched out of the rough back into the fairway and pulled it off. Good out. Third shot from the middle of the fairway comes up short with a 9-iron and he’ll be chipping from there. Needs to hole out to keep a clean card on the day.

AROUND THE GREEN (2:32 p.m.): Gave it a run but the ball scooted past the hole. Shouldn’t give him any trouble from there, but he’ll card his first bogey of the round.

TIGER ON THE DAY: 1 under thru 8 (7 under overall)

Hole 7: Par 3, 238 yards

OFF THE TEE (2:12 p.m.): Safe shot there into the center of the green. Leaves 27 feet for the birdie try. Also just moved to T-5, definitely in line for his best finish since the Tour Championship win at East Lake.

ON THE GREEN (2:17 p.m.): Perfect pace again but just missed on the line. Another no-sweat par. Onward.

TIGER ON THE DAY: 2 under thru 7 (8 under overall)

Hole 6: Par 5, 605 yards

OFF THE TEE (1:51 p.m.): Keeps the fairways streak alive with a 315-yard poke. Has 292 yards left from there and definitely thinking birdie, which would get him inside the top 5.

APPROACH SHOT (1:54 p.m.): Just a layup from there after a long discussion with caddie Joe LaCava. Can never get enough of those player-caddie interactions with broadcasters simply getting out of the way. Chance to show off with a wedge coming up.

THIRD SHOT (1:58 p.m.): Nearly jarred it! That thing was all over the flag from 106 yards and bounced a few inches from the cup. Hard to believe that didn’t go in with how close it was, looked like it hopped back directly over the cup. But Woods misses the birdie putt from there for a disappointing par.

TIGER ON THE DAY: 2 under thru 6 (8 under overall)

Hole 5: Par 4, 433 yards

OFF THE TEE (1:32 p.m.): Another fairway and another good scoring chance coming up.

APPROACH SHOT (1:38 p.m.): That’ll work. On the green from 177 yards out and putting for another birdie. Seems very much in control of his golf ball today.

ON THE GREEN (1:45 p.m.): Very close. Another good roll and it’ll be a tap-in par from there. Still on cruise control for the moment.

TIGER ON THE DAY: 2 under thru 5 (8 under overall)

Hole 4: Par 4, 513 yards

OFF THE TEE (1:15 p.m.): Another iron here and that’s fine, right side of the fairway. Looks like the strategy today is to just keep it in play off the tee and fire at pins from there.

APPROACH SHOT (1:21 p.m.): Not his best effort with a 6-iron, didn’t quite turn it over and the ball landed long and right. Bounced off the back of the green and into the rough, he’ll be chipping from there.

AROUND THE GREEN (1:25 p.m.): Not bad, not great. Leaves maybe 4-5 feet for par and cleans that up, has to be a relief to see these putts dropping after yesterday.

TIGER ON THE DAY: 2 under thru 4 (8 under overall)

Hole 3: Par 3, 160 yards

OFF THE TEE (1:04 p.m.): Wow, that looked like it was all over the flag but the ball spun back and didn’t stop moving. Long ways to go for birdie from there but he’s on the short stuff.

ON THE GREEN (1:10 p.m.): Aggressive roll there, looked like it had a chance but skated past the hole and leaves a tough one coming back for par. Pretty clear Tiger is going for broke today so this should be an entertaining round. Just made that comebacker for par to keep the momentum going, very strong two-putt there.

TIGER ON THE DAY: 2 under thru 3 (8 under overall)

Hole 2: Par 4, 368 yards

OFF THE TEE (12:51 p.m.): Just an iron off the tee and he looked concerned on the follow through, but the ball trickles down the right side of the fairway and that should be just fine. Will have 129 yards from there.

APPROACH SHOT (12:58 p.m.): Alright, in business here for sure. Beauty from the fairway and he’s just long of the flag, about 7 feet left for birdie.

ON THE GREEN (1 p.m.): Yessir. Drains another putt to start birdie-birdie coming off one of the worst putting performances he’s had in years. That’ll put a little extra lead in the pencil to start the afternoon.

TIGER ON THE DAY: 2 under thru 2 (8 under overall)

Hole 1: Par 4, 322 yards

OFF THE TEE (12:34 p.m.): That’s how you want to start the day. Just a fairway wood off the tee and Tiger hit a tight draw right up to the front of the green. Might be putting from there for eagle.

AROUND THE GREEN (12:44 p.m.): Opted for a wedge from the fringe and not the best chip. On a good line but left it short, maybe 6-7 feet left for an opening birdie.

ON THE GREEN (12:47 p.m.): Center of the cup. Stroke looked pure on that 8-footer and it’s an opening birdie for Tiger. Good start.

TIGER ON THE DAY: 1 under thru 1 (7 under overall)

Pre-round

Tiger Woods is looking for his first top-10 finish of the season Sunday during the final round of the WGC-Mexico Championship in Mexico City.

Woods played his way into contention late in the third round Saturday, but a double bogey at the par-5 15th eliminated any comeback hopes. He begins the day 6 under overall, 10 shots back of outright leader Dustin Johnson. Woods is T-9 alongside Tommy Fleetwood, Louis Oosthuizen and David Lipsky and has a chance to crack the top 10 in his third start of the season.

Woods is skipping next week’s Honda Classic and will return for back-to-back starts at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and Players Championship.

For now, there’s one more round to be played at Club de Golf Chapultepec, where we’ll be tracking every shot from Woods’ final round.
