The 152nd Open Championship will be held July 18-21 at Royal Troon in Scotland and the 156-man field is almost full.
For many, July 2 provided a final shot at glory to earn a tee time in the final men’s major of 2024, but there was first the requirement of surviving one of the 36-hole final qualifying stages. The R&A reported that there were 288 golfers in all competing at one of four venues, with four qualifying places available at each golf course.
Dundonald Links, Royal Cinque Ports, Burnham & Berrow and West Lancashire were the staging grounds for this final grind.
But alas, it was not in the cards for some big names. Here’s a closer look at some notables who came up just short of making the British Open field.
