General manager Chris Ballard said Monday in an appearance on The GM Shuffle podcast that Richardson will "be full-go" for training camp, Nick Shook of NFL.com reports. Richardson had rest days mixed into his on-field work during OTAs and mandatory minicamp as a result of shoulder soreness, but those bouts of fatigue don't seem to have represented an actual setback. Instead, it looks like the Colts are simply trying to take a cautious approach to Richardson's recovery as he recovers from October surgery on his right throwing shoulder. By the time training camp kicks off late July, Richardson remains on track to be full strength, but if he's still having to take days off at that time it could represent more cause for concern. At full health, Richardson's combination of arm strength, 6-foot-4, 244-pound size, and 4.43 40 speed provide him a tremendous fantasy ceiling, especially with rookie second-rounder Adonai Mitchell joining Michael Pittman, Josh Downs and Alec Pierce.

To be full-go for training camp
Still managing soreness
Richardson took a rest day at practice Thursday due to shoulder soreness, James Boyd of The Athletic reports. Coach Shane Steichen said "there's nothing to worry about," per Boyd, and that Richardson would be in line to play were the Colts preparing for a game-scenario this weekend. Steichen added that Richardson had his shoulder checked Thursday morning, and it was confirmed that the quarterback is only dealing with soreness in his surgically repaired right shoulder. Richardson has been participating in 11-on-11 drills and throwing throughout OTAs, and some soreness as he ramps up his practice activities is to be expected. He remains on track to be full strength for the start of training camp late July.
Says he's almost 100 percent
Richardson said Monday that his right shoulder is at about "95 percent" strength, per ESPN's Pat McAfee Show. Richardson has been throwing in OTAs, including 11-on-11 drills, though he mentioned May 22 that there were still some days when his surgically repaired shoulder felt "a little achy." He seems to have avoided any major setbacks after October surgery and should be back to full strength without any restrictions for the start of training camp in late July. Richardson is often the fifth or sixth QB taken in early fantasy drafts, offering an unprecedented combination of size (6-foot-4, 244), speed (4.43 40) and arm strength. He had four rushing touchdowns and three passing scores on 173 snaps last year, playing two full games and less than half of two others.
Takes part in 11-on-11 drills
Richardson (shoulder) is throwing in 11-on-11 drills at Indianapolis' OTAs, Kevin Bowen of 107.5 The Fan reports. Richardson, on his 22nd birthday Wednesday, returned to 11-on-11 activities, and he reportedly showed no signs of still being hampered by the right shoulder injury that ended his rookie campaign after just four games. While the Colts won't don full pads at practice until training camp, it looks like Richardson is operating without restrictions at this point. The second-year quarterback said the shoulder he had surgery on feels "a little achy," but that the plan is for him to practice in full unless soreness manifests. Barring any serious setbacks, the uber-athletic Richardson will be a popular breakout candidate for 2024 fantasy drafts.
Throwing at practice
Richardson (shoulder) is throwing at spring practices and looks to be healthy, James Boyd of The Athletic reports. Coach Shane Steichen said in March that he expected Richardson to be ready for OTAs in May and June. It looks like that's coming to fruition, though the QB won't necessarily be a full participant in all activities, having undergone surgery on his throwing shoulder in October. He resumed throwing in February and is the unquestioned QB1 for an offense that just added WR Adonai Mitchell in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft.
Should be ready for OTAs
Coach Shane Steichen noted Monday that Richardson (right shoulder) "should be" OK for the Colts' OTAs, which take place in May and early June, JJ Stankevitz of the team's official site reports. "I like where he's at," Steichen said of Richardson, who is bouncing back from surgery that he underwent on his throwing shoulder in October. "He's progressing really, really well. He's just getting better and better." Per James Boyd of The Athletic, Richardson began throwing again last month, and, considering that, the 2023 first-rounder figures to be eased back into his on-field participation, at least initially. In any case, assuming no setbacks, Richardson is set to reclaim his role as the Colts' starting quarterback this coming season, with veteran signal-caller Joe Flacco now on board to work as the team's top backup.
