Breece Hall Latest News
Could practice, team being cautious
Hall (lower body), who has been sidelined at minicamp, said Wednesday he "could practice right now" but that "the coaches are really cautious," John Pullano of the Jets' official site reports. "I do all the walkthroughs and stuff we've been doing," Hall said. While he's been present for OTAs and mandatory minicamp, Hall has been limited to work on the side due to what coach Robert Saleh called "some lower half stuff." The featured RB said he feels "a lot leaner this offseason" and that his knee "feels a lot better" than during the 2023 campaign. He's set lofty goals for improvement during the 2024 season, saying his targets are to earn his first All-Pro and Pro Bowl honors and match the standard of superstar 49ers tailback Christian McCaffery. Fantasy managers have similarly high expectations for Hall heading into Year 3, as he's one of the few running backs commonly in contention to come off the board early in Round 1 of fantasy drafts, along with McCaffrey and Bijan Robinson.
Not practicing at minicamp
Hall (lower body) won't practice Tuesday, Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic reports. Hall missed some OTA practices in May and now will sit out the first day of June minicamp. There's been no indication of a serious injury, but it'll be something to keep an eye on ahead of training camp in late July. With Hall absent Tuesday, rookies Braelon Allen and Isaiah Davis should have opportunities to work with the first-team offense as they continue their competition for the No. 2 running back role.
Limited to side work
Hall is working off to the side at Tuesday's practice, with coach Robert Saleh telling reporters the running back is "dealing with some lower half stuff," Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic reports. Hall was first spotted with the Jets' rehab group last Wednesday and is now confirmed to be dealing with a minor injury. It doesn't sound like anything that will still be an issue when the Jets start training camp in late July, but it's possible Hall is limited or absent during mandatory minicamp June 11-13. Braelon Allen, Isaiah Davis, Israel Abanikanda and Tarik Cohen are all candidates to take first-team RB reps while Hall isn't practicing.
Seemingly has minor injury
Hall is working in the rehab area during practice Wednesday, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports. While nothing has been reported so far this offseason, Hall's presence with the rehab group suggests he picked up some kind of minor injury during a previous OTA or workout. Any absence(s) from team drills could free up first-team reps for Israel Abanikanda, Braelon Allen or Isaiah Davis, with recent signing Tarik Cohen potentially an option for third downs and two-minute drills.
Questionable after full practice
The Jets' top three running backs are all questionable, as Hall's joined by Dalvin Cook (shoulder) and Israel Abanikanda (illness) on the injury report. Of the three, Hall is the only one that mustered a full practice Friday, suggesting he's in good position to handle his usual heavy workload as the Jets' lead back, barring a setback. Confirmation on Hall's availability will come approximately 90 minutes before Sunday's game kicks off at 1:00 p.m. ET.
Scores 50-yard receiving TD
After a slow start for both offenses, Hall used his rare blend of elusiveness and speed to turn a simple check-down grab into a 50-yard touchdown catch to put the Jets up 7-3. That looked like all the offense the Jets would muster as Hall was stymied on the ground and Zach Wilson couldn't get anything going in the passing game, but a late burst from the passing attack helped the Jets force overtime and eventually win. It's encouraging that the team is finding ways to get Hall the ball in the passing game when the run isn't working, but the offensive line's inability to consistently open up holes remains a concern as Hall gets ready to face the Chargers in Week 9.
