Trey Hendrickson Latest News
Participating in offseason workouts
Hendrickson is participating in the Bengals' offseason workouts despite requesting a trade in late April, Kelsey Conway of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. Hendrickson is under contract for the next two seasons and he's set to make $15 million in 2024, but he's unhappy with the lack of long-term security that Cincinnati has been willing to offer. The 29-year-old edge rusher is coming off the most productive season of his career, putting up 43 total tackles, including a career-best 16 tackles for loss and an additional 1.5 sacks. With Hendrickson participating in the Bengals' offseason workouts, he's expected to continue wreaking havoc on opposing quarterbacks in 2024, whether that's in Cincinnati or elsewhere.
Cincinnati not interested in trade
The Bengals aren't interested in trading Hendrickson, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. Per Ben Baby of ESPN.com, the defensive end requested a trade Wednesday, with Hendrickson's reported motivation being that he's seeking a long-term commitment from the Bengals. At present, the 29-year-old -- who finished last season with 17.5 sacks -- is signed with Cincinnati through 2025. At this stage, the team doesn't appear inclined to deal the star pass rusher, a stance that also applies to wideout Tee Higgins, who also requested a trade earlier this offseason.
Reportedly seeking trade
Hendrickson has requested that the Bengals trade him, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. Per Schefter, Hendrickson -- who is in line to make $15 million this coming season -- is looking for more long-term security than the team has been willing to offer to this point. The 29-year-old is coming of a 2023 campaign in which he recorded 43 tackles and made a major impact as a pass rusher by racking up a career-high 17.5 sacks in 17 regular-season games.
Cleared to play
Considered unlikely to play earlier this week, Hendrickson apparently has made quick progress in his recovery from a knee hyperextension. He made an early exit from Sunday's loss to Houston and was then listed as a non-participant Monday, before progressing to limited participation Tuesday and a full showing Wednesday. The Bengals will have their top pass rusher available for a crucial Thursday showdown, while bookend Sam Hubbard (ankle) has been ruled out again.
Considered day-to-day
It's somewhat of a relief for Hendrickson, who was blindsided low during Sunday's loss versus the Texans and sustained a hyperextended knee. Even so, he faces an uphill battle to recover from the injury and return on a short week for Thursday's game at Baltimore.
Returns to game
Hendrickson briefly exited the game after he suffered a left ankle injury, but he's now back out on the field. The 28-year-old will return to his starting role on Cincinnati's defensive line.
Left ankle injury
Hendrickson accidentally got stepped on by a Niners blocker engaged with another Bengals pass rusher. He's the key to the Bengals pass rush, so his status is incredibly important to their defense.
