Diaz (3-1) got the win during Sunday's 3-2 victory over the Pirates but also blew the save. He did not allow a run on one hit, one walk and one strikeout over 1.1 innings. With the Mets leading 1-0, Diaz entered the game with two outs in the eighth and allowed a walk and the go-ahead hit. After Francisco Lindor gave his team the lead, Diaz came back out and pitched a clean ninth to pick up his third win. The 30-year-old returned from his 10-game suspension on Saturday, and he picked up the save. With Sunday's outing, he hasn't allowed a run in his last six appearances and has lowered his ERA to 4.26.
Lindor went 3-for-4 with a double, two RBI and a walk in Sunday's win over the Pirates. Lindor delivered a clutch hit off Aroldis Chapman with the bases loaded and two outs in the ninth to give his team the win on Sunday. Lindor continues his resurgence over the last two months, hitting .277/.335/.492 with 10 homers, 34 RBI and 12 stolen bases over his last 58 games. After a forgetful April, the four-time All-Star has 22 multi-hit games since the beginning of May, which is tied for the fifth most in MLB in that span.
Manaea yielded two hits, three walks and struck out six over six shutout frames but did not factor into the decision Sunday against the Pirates. Manaea had another strong outing, picking up back-to-back quality starts for the first time since 2022. The left-hander did not allow a hit until two outs in the fourth, when Ke'Bryan Hayes reached on an infield hit. Unfortunately, Manaea did not get much run support, which continues a common theme with him since he's still at five wins this season despite allowing three runs or fewer in 14 of his 17 starts.
The Mets acquired Gage from the Dodgers on Sunday in exchange for cash considerations. He was subsequently optioned to Triple-A Syracuse. The Dodgers added Gage to their 40-man roster last week, and he was quickly shipped off to another organization. The left-hander has a 4.29 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 27:12 K:BB over 21 innings at the Triple-A level this season.
Bader is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Pirates. Bader missed a pair of starts last Wednesday and Thursday while recovering from a head injury, but he returned to the lineup for the first two games of the Mets' series in Pittsburgh, going 1-for-6 with a double and an RBI. The Mets haven't indicated that Bader suffered any sort of setback since rejoining the lineup, so his absence Sunday is likely just a maintenance day.
Taylor is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Pirates. Taylor has been operating as the Mets' primary right fielder since Starling Marte (knee) landed on the injured list June 25, but he'll exit the starting nine Sunday to clear a spot for DJ Stewart. Thus far during Marte's absence, Taylor is hitting just .162 over 10 games, but five of his six hits during that stretch have gone for extra bases (three home runs, two doubles).
Alvarez (elbow) will start at catcher and bat fifth in Sunday's game against the Pirates. Alvarez was held out for Saturday's 5-2 win after he was struck in the left elbow by a fastball in Friday's 14-2 loss in the series opener, but the day off was apparently all the young catcher needed to overcome the soreness he had been experiencing. Since returning from the injured list June 11, Alvarez has slashed .338/.413/.600 with three home runs, 15 RBI and eight runs.
