Wonnum (quadriceps) could begin the summer on Carolina's PUP list, Mike Kaye of the Charlotte Observer reports. Wonnum agreed to a two-year deal with the Panthers earlier in the offseason, but he's still dealing with a quadriceps issue from last year that has kept him off the field thus far. Despite Wonnum potentially starting Carolina's summer on the PUP list, he's expected to contribute as one of the Panthers' starting edge rushers alongside Jadeveon Clowney "at some point," according to Kaye.

Latest Panthers News
D.J. Wonnum : PUP bound?
Wonnum (quadriceps) could begin the summer on Carolina's PUP list, Mike Kaye of the Charlotte Observer reports. Wonnum agreed to a two-year deal with the Panthers earlier in the offseason, but he's still dealing with a quadriceps issue from last year that has kept him off the field thus far. Despite Wonnum potentially starting Carolina's summer on the PUP list, he's expected to contribute as one of the Panthers' starting edge rushers alongside Jadeveon Clowney "at some point," according to Kaye.
Adam Thielen : Slot role remains intact?
Thielen projects to reprise his role as the top slot receiver for Carolina during the 2024 season, with newcomers Diontae Johnson and Xavier Legette (hamstring) slated to primarily line up on the outside, Mike Kaye of The Charlotte Observer reports. Thielen was one of the few offensive playmakers to find success during Bryce Young's rookie season, as he compiled a 103-1,014-4 receiving line while suiting up for all 17 regular-season games. Adding an established veteran in Johnson and a high-upside first-round rookie in Legette could give Young the tools to take a step forward, and with that improve the Panthers' passing offense. Despite an increase in target competition, Thielen's combination of established chemistry with Young and slot role could still make him a go-to target for the second-year signal-caller, especially early during the 2024 campaign if Legette needs some time to build momentum.
Ian Thomas : Surprisingly busy during OTAs
Thomas caught a surprising number of passes during Carolina's offseason program, ESPN's David Newton reports. The 2018 fourth-round pick got a lot of snaps and routes early in his career but never improved on a rookie season with 36 catches for 333 yards and two touchdowns. He then had four straight years between 136 and 197 yards, before sinking to five catches for 56 yards last season while playing a career-low 206 snaps. It sounds like Thomas may be a better fit in new coach Dave Canales' scheme, but fantasy value still seems a bit far-fetched for a player with 1,055 yards and four TDs on 2,975 career snaps. The Panthers also have Tommy Tremble and 2024 fourth-round pick Ja'Tavion Sanders competing for playing time at tight end, with the former better suited to blocking and the latter more of a receiving threat. Sanders is the only one of the bunch that seems to offer any real upside to become a fantasy-worthy pass catcher.
Daewood Davis : Picked up by Carolina
Davis (concussion) has agreed to terms on a contract with the Panthers, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports. Davis missed the entire 2023 season after suffering a concussion in the Dolphins' final preseason game and subsequently being placed on injured reserve. With his rookie season over prematurely, the Western Kentucky product will now look to make an impression in Carolina. However, he will have his work cut out for him as one of 13 wide receivers currently on the roster.
Shaq Thompson : Ready for 2024
Thompson told reporters Wednesday that he feels "amazing" coming off his fractured ankle from nine months ago, Joe Person of The Athletic reports. According to Person, Thompson told reporters that he underwent another surgery this offseason to address a groin issue that originated in 2020. The 30-year-old linebacker also stated that he expects to play five more seasons in the NFL and he hopes to retire as a Panther, per David Newton of ESPN.com. It seems Thompson is in good health and spirits heading into Carolina's 2024 campaign, as he projects to have another large role as the team's defensive field general.
DJ Johnson : Avoids serious injury
Johnson's knee injury isn't considered serious, Joe Person of The Athletic reports. Johnson was carted off the field during Panthers' minicamp last week with what was initially thought to be a calf injury, but it's now been clarified to be a knee issue. The second-year linebacker out of Oregon appeared in 13 games and made 16 total tackles during his rookie campaign, and he's expected to compete for a depth role on Carolina's defense once he's past his knee injury.
Eddy Pineiro : Attending minicamp
Pineiro (hamstring) is participating in practice Tuesday at June minicamp, David Newton of ESPN.com reports. Pineiro, who missed the final two games of Carolina's 2023 season due to a hamstring injury and has remained away from offseason activities while seeking a new contract, is now present at team facilities and appears healthy. Undrafted rookie Harrison Mevis is also present as an option to take reps in mandatory minicamp. Pineiro is currently heading into the final season of his two-year, $4.1 million contract, and he converted 25 of 29 field-goal attempts across 15 games last year.
DJ Johnson : Avoids significant injury
Johnson (calf) will be sidelined for the remainder of minicamp this week, but should be ready for training camp, David Newton of ESPN.com reports. Johnson left practice early Tuesday after suffering what was initially reported as a knee injury and had to be carted off the field. Fortunately, for the second-year pro, it appears the injury is not serious with the Panthers expecting him to be ready for training camp.
