Latest Eagles News
Zech McPhearson : Recovered from Achilles injury
McPhearson said during a community event Saturday that he's "100 percent" recovered from his Achilles tear and that he'll be a full-go at the start of training camp, Andrew DiCecco of Inside the Birds reports. McPhearson missed all of last season after tearing his right Achilles during a preseason game. Prior to the injury, the cornerback had played in 33 of a possible 34 regular-season contests and in all four of the Eagles' playoff games during his first two years in the NFL. McPhearson was adamant Saturday that he's back to full health and will be ready to participate from the first day of training camp despite sitting out of spring practices as part of a "strategic ramp-up regimen." The 26-year-old will be competing for a depth role in a crowded Eagles secondary.
Isaiah Rodgers : Showing no rust
Rodgers, who missed the entire 2023 season due to a suspension for violating the NFL's gambling policy, has been one of Philadelphia's most impressive players this offseason, Tim McManus of ESPN reports. Rodgers doesn't seem to have slowed down at all despite being a year removed from the NFL field, with teammate A.J. Brown saying "he's flying around, and he's going to do special stuff for us this year." McManus reports that Rodgers will be in position to compete for a starting spot at outside corner opposite Darius Slay during training camp, primarily vying with Kelee Ringo and rookie first-round pick Quinyon Mitchell for the role.
Jalen Hurts : Learning another new offense
Hurts said the offense he's learning under new coordinator Kellen Moore is "probably 95 percent" new, Brooks Kubena of The Athletic reports. Hurts will work with his fifth playcaller in as many pro seasons, having gone from Doug Pederson to Nick Sirianni to Shane Steichen to Brian Johnson to Moore. It sounds like this will be the biggest change to the Eagles offense since 2021, when Sirianni replaced Pederson as the head coach and the team drafted WR DeVonta Smith in the first round. The unit will have two new starters this season, with RB Saquon Barkley signed to replace D'Andre Swift (Bears) and the right guard job up for grabs with Cam Jurgens shifting over to center to replace a retired Jason Kelce. The new offense figures to entail a lot more pre-snap motion, something the Eagles used on a league-low 10.9 percent of plays last season (the Chargers ranked eighth under Moore at 25.9 percent).
Darius Slay : Back for minicamp
Slay (back) was spotted practicing at Thursday's minicamp session, Cayden Steele of NJ.com reports. The 33-year-old cornerback was carted off the field with a back injury during the Eagles' wild-card loss to the Buccaneers, but it now seems as if he's moved past the issue. Slay, a six-time Pro-Bowler, defended 14 passes, including two interceptions, in just 12 games last season. Now that Slay has returned to form, he's expected to serve as the Eagles' top corner once again in 2024.
James Bradberry : Dealing with injury
Bradberry was absent from the Eagles' minicamp session Thursday after sustaining an undisclosed injury Tuesday, Martin Frank of The Delaware News Journal reports. The ninth-year veteran is dealing with an unspecified injury that's kept him out of mandatory minicamp, but there's no word on the severity as of now. Bradberry had a down year after receiving All-Pro honors in 2022, and he's expected to remain an integral part of Philadelphia's secondary once he moves past this issue.
James Bradberry : Getting moved around
Bradberry has been seeing work at safety during practices this week, Jeff McLane of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. Bradberry has also been seeing work inside, as head coach Nick Sirianni is looking to take advantage of his versatility. With rookie Quinyon Mitchell penciled in as a starter at corner opposite Darius Slay (back), the veteran may lose his starting gig in the Eagles' secondary.
Cooper DeJean : Embracing versatility
DeJean is being exposed to more than one position in the offseason, Brooks Kubena of The Athletic reports. Kubena further reported that Eagles pass game coordinator Christian Parker said DeJean "can handle it mentally" and might "have a home" by training camp. The 2023 All-American at Iowa played cornerback, safety and a hybrid linebacker/defensive back role during his college career.
Matt Hennessy : Active for OTAs
Hennessy (knee) was an active participant at the Eagles' OTAs this past week, Jeff McLane of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. Hennessy was unavailable for the entirety of the 2023 campaign with a knee injury, but he looks to be a full go ahead of 2024. The 26-year-old will likely operate as a depth option behind Landon Dickerson and Tyler Steen at offensive guard this season.
