Dennis Schroeder: 'I want to be in Brooklyn long-term'

What are your thoughts for next year with the Nets? Dennis Schroeder: I want to be in Brooklyn long-term. Hopefully that works out. I want to be a veteran who shows the young people the way and how we should play and how we play as a team. I understand that the NBA is always more individual, but I want to make one team like we had in Atlanta where it was about just winning and really not caring who scores. And I want to bring that back to the NBA, to the Brooklyn Nets. And hopefully they see the same vision and of course still compete on the highest level, but that’s going to take some time.

Chris Fedor on Luke Travers: ‘When we talked to him shortly before the start of summer league it was during Cavs summer camp he mentioned that he wanted to come to the NBA and in his mind it needed to happen ASAP and he just didn’t want to be a guy who was going to be stuck in Australia not getting this this dream opportunity, that he was hoping for that, that he’s been working for. It’s clear that Luke feels as if he’s ready for the next step in his career and that means the next step in his career being outside of Australia. Does he feel like that is the G-League primarily? That’s a question that I don’t think anybody has an answer to right now. But I think when you look at the way that this roster is made up that’s probably going to be the path that he would have to take, because I think the Cavs would be more open to bringing him from Australia if it means him being on a two-way contract as opposed to one of those locked in NBA standard deals.

Chris Fedor on Cavs’ offseason: ‘It wasn’t going to be that kind of splashy summer coming off the Knicks loss where their flaws were so obvious that if they didn’t fix them they weren’t going to reach their goals, they weren’t going to take the next step as an organization. Given their salary cap situation coming into this off season, given the way that their roster was already set up coming into this offseason, it was about an extension for Donovan Mitchell, an extension for Evan Mobley, an extension with Jarret Allen if the two sides could agree to that, and that’s what they’ve done.’

Carmelo Anthony picks his all-time Team USA Olympic starting five and leaves off Michael Jordan

BasketNews: Who would be on your all-time Team USA starting five? Carmelo Anthony: Myself, Kevin Durant, LeBron James, and then I would have to go to Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan would be that but, for USA I would put Charles Barkley. So that like that would be kind of my starting five: Barkley, myself, Durant, LeBron, Kobe. When you say overall I mean what he did with the ’92 team would never be done but the fact that he only played in that the one Olympics I’m looking at guys who had a career in FIBA basketball, and with Barkley, he also played one or two… If I had to use the same rule for MJ then I probably would choose Jason Kidd instead of Barkley. I think a lot of people wouldn’t expect Jason Kidd to be thrown in there but yeah those are those are the five.

Jovan Buha: It’s going to come down to the Lakers making another move to improve this roster and everyone knows it. So while I understand like potentially waiting you could regain some leverage closer to the trade deadline, I also think there’s a chance with Portland. Portland, who the Lakers have been talking about with Jerami Grant, just looks at it as ‘we want two first for Jerami Grant and come trade deadline we’re still going to ask that for Jerami’. I’m not saying trade two first-round picks for Jerami Grant I do think that is an overpay, but I believe in being aggressive with these first-round picks. I think that the Lakers can can’t really build a contender in the present and also retain their assets long term.

Jovan Buha: Everyone knows that the Lakers need to make a move at some point and whether it’s now or closer to the trade deadline. I think they’re still going to come up with against the same hurdles in terms of teams asking for at least one first if not a couple in basically any trade that they make with any of those midsize guys. I think Lakers in my opinion would be better served making a deal now or or at least closer to training camp the beginning of the season rather than waiting it out, but we shall see what they do. I’m skeptical, I think more likely is is them waiting toward the trade deadline.
