In 1965 Roadstone completed another key merger. This time it was with John A wood, who was a significant player in the South West. John a Wood was always a supporter of Roadstone, having assisted the initial launch on the Dublin stock exchange in 1949. This was a big move for Roadstone establishing it as a business with the potential for huge growth.

1961 saw another major development for Roadstone in a merger with Clondalkin Concrete, a readymix producer of concrete in Dublin. This would further allow the development of Roadstone and its concrete business in the Dublin area. Here we see a truck from the very early days of Roadstone.

The sun is shining on site in Coolfadda, Bandon at the CField development. Roadstone Ltd. paving used here in both the front and back of each unit. Castlestone - Limestone Blend in the driveways with a Castlestone - Curragh Blend border detail. Note that 50mm paving was used here which is suitable for low traffic residential units, offering a cost saving to the customer, whilst meeting compliance requirements as per BS 7533. In the back of these units, Roadstone’s - Smooth Flag 400 x 400 x 40mm - Natural, were used as a cost effective option. These flags are part of our new range of Roadstone Paving Products. Excellent work by Jodie Lane and the team at Lane Paving. Arklow Quarry was first established in 1877 by Charles Stewart Parnell, who saw an opportunity to excavate basalt for the British market. During this period of Victorian urban expansion, there was a huge demand for durable stone to construct roads, quays and bridges. After acquiring the location, management at Roadstone could see the potential to reinvigorate the export market. In 1959 Arklow sea port was reopened to provide direct on-site access to wharf facilities for sea transport. Today the wharf remains active.

Our Employee Development Programme (EDP) teams are doing fantastic work to raise vital funds for the Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity and are on track to reaching their fundraising goal! This is the only charity that provides emotional, physical, and financial wellbeing support to the construction community and their families.   Here is what some of our Roadstone employees have been doing to raise money.   Louise O’Donnell and Jack Taaffe’s group, Lack of AI, will be climbing Slieve Donard in Co. Down this Sunday.    Alex Lynch and Kevin Doyle’s team completed their first ever 10km charity run in Fingal, Co. Dublin.    Sean Maguire, Leona Curley and Stephen Bishop’s team, The Toolbox Talkers, hiked to Cuilcagh.   Pauline Glynn and Andrei Morari’s team, Rock ‘N’ Roaders will be aiming to water-ski for 200 meters each along Killglass Lough on the River Shannon.    Leah Fenlon, Damien Elliott and John Mulraney’s team are hosting an online raffle. Below are a few images from the Knight Light team who travelled to 5 lighthouses on the same day to raise awareness of Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity
