Meet Devina, a computer science student and STEP intern based in our Bucharest office. “This summer, I’m working with Fitbit to help users to test out new features,” Devina explained. “More specifically, I’ve been focusing on the mobile side of the Fitbit app, learning and working with the latest Android APIs.” For Devina, her interest in interning at Google was initially sparked by the opportunity to grow her skill sets. “What most attracted me to the STEP internship was the unparalleled focus on learning and personal development. As a curious person, Google's commitment to fostering a culture of development strongly aligned with my own aspirations — and the STEP internship offered an exciting opportunity to immerse myself in the dynamic ecosystem that challenges me to expand my knowledge.” In addition, her fellow interns and Googlers have made her internship experience even more special. “The open collaboration, support, and friendliness from everyone in the Bucharest office has been so refreshing, and my team has been so willing to mentor and guide me!”

Meet Ruby, a Taiwan-based STEP intern working on the Pixel camera’s AI experience. “My role focuses on enhancing how our team collects and processes user feedback to continually improve the app's performance and user experience,” Ruby explained. “Through this experience, I’ve gained invaluable technical skills crucial for my future as an engineer.” When asked about her favorite memories from the summer, Ruby mentioned the people she’s met along the way. “What I've cherished most is the chance to build relationships across Google, especially with my mentor. We connected deeply over our experiences studying abroad and navigating cultural differences.” Her advice for anyone interested in following her steps? “I only wrote my first line of code two years ago. This experience has taught me that it's never too late to start, and hard work really does pay off.”
