🚨Conflicts are driving food and nutrition insecurity to unprecedented levels. Currently, data reveals that approximately 70% of people facing extreme hunger reside in fragile and conflict-affected areas. Conflict exacerbates food insecurity by displacing people from their homes, jobs, and land, while also hindering the delivery of timely humanitarian assistance due to restricted access. 📍 On the ground in #Gaza, WFP's Country Director Antoine Renard explains what he's seeing, as tens of thousands of Gazans are forced to evacuate with no certain access to shelter or food. Read more to get the facts ⤵️ 🔵 WFP reached 1 million people in July, but humanitarian operations are hanging by a thread. 🔵 Each time tens of thousands of people are ordered to evacuate, humanitarian aid points and hot meals operations have to shut down and new ones must be set up from scratch. 🔵 WFP was only able to bring in half the quantity of food needed in July. We need more border crossing points to open to reach people safely and at scale.

Yasmine Lababidi, Head of Nutrition and School Feeding in WFP #Syria Country Office, emphasizes the crucial role of breastfeeding in fragile settings and WFP's commitment to supporting breastfeeding mothers through food and voucher assistance.   Breastmilk feeds the future, giving babies all the energy and nutrients they need in the first six months of life 👶. In emergency settings, breastfeeding saves children’s lives and safeguards the next generation. Yet, mothers may struggle to breastfeed due to their own hunger and malnutrition, the lack of safe spaces to breastfeed, psychological trauma, and being constantly on the move.   🤱WFP supports breastfeeding mothers to continue breastfeeding and give their children the best possible start.   #WorldBreastfeedingWeek

🆘 Our deepest fears in #Sudan have materialized: The Integrated Food Security Phase Classification Famine Review Committee has confirmed famine in Zamzam camp, North Darfur, with 13 other regions at imminent risk.   A region enters IPC Phase 5 (Famine) when: 🔺Over 20% of households face extreme food shortages. 🔺Over 30% of children suffer from acute malnutrition. 🔺The daily mortality rate exceeds 2 per 10,000 people, or 4 per 10,000 children under five. This classification means people are dying of hunger.   To prevent famine from spreading, WFP urgently calls for unrestricted access to deliver humanitarian food assistance.
