Under the Skin

Under the Skin

You are born into a cold and unforgiving world where you assume an identity to protect yourself from hostility both interior and exterior.

You do not understand this world. It is loud, it is bright, it is brutal. You do what you are told to survive.

One day, you are changed. Something makes you question everything you’ve ever been told. Life can never be the same again.

You venture out, into the unknown. Reborn. You step outside of the box you didn’t know you were confined to. It is still a cold and brutal world, but suddenly, light.

Warmth. Comfort. Something close to understanding. You’ve never felt anything else like it. Nothing else matters. Now you understand, even if you are not fully understood. There is familiarity.

It is fleeting. You cannot escape your past, your purpose, your reason for being. You are afraid. You escape.

You are alone once more, but everything is different. You cannot go back. Your time is running out. You are being hunted. You are no longer in control.

You are cold and scared and running and trip and fall and this time you cannot get up. You risked everything and your ending is now. Now there is nothing.

The world you entered, cold and alone, has reclaimed you. You were here. You are gone. Life continues.

My favourite film.
