Tale of Events from Eternity’s Knight (GM Event Log)

The telling of events from Steamfront Mountains to Dagnor’s Cauldron

A number of dragons then appear within the hills outside the city of Qeynos and assumed mortal form. One of their number being a blue drake named Drakel took the form of a high elf, Lady Zavo Zatanov. They gather a band of adventurers to escort them to lair of Lady Vox, who is found howling in rage over the theft of the shard from Veeshans claw; left from when Veeshan struck the world in its creation.

These dragons now in mortal form from the Ring of Scale confront Carson McCabe’s agent and is felled by their hands, attaining the Crystal Claw of Veeshan. Leaving the ruins of Permafrost Keep they run into the lackeys of Mayong Mistmoore that had been sent to escort Kivgor Illbriar back to the halls of Castle Mistmoore. A battle ensues between the dragons and their adventurous allies against the agents of Mistmoore who are driven off, with Lord Galendore left slain. At the commencement of their victory they are asked to aid them in a ceremony that would be performed within the confines of the Rathe Mountains.

At the Rathe Mountains the members of the Ring of Scale that are present begin preparations for their ceremony that will forever rend the veil, and awaken dragons all across the face of Norrath from their slumber. However, before the ceremony can even take place Mayong Mistmoore arrives confronting the dragons and their allies.

Three of the dragons who had now assumed their true form are slain before the gathered adventurers can drive Mayong from the Mountain Passes. With the ceremony now in ruin Lady Zavo asks for a volunteer to sacrifice himself and keep the Crystal Claw of Veeshan in safe keeping, who was then dubbed “The Scaled Claw”.

The Case of the Ursa Rhym

I have been assigned by Lady Alethea Jyleel to investigate the tragedy of the fairiefolke living within the Gully of the Ursa Rhym. The rhym seem to be a type of fairy about the size of a firefly, if not smaller. These rhym gather the information of the environment around them like a sponge absorbs water. This information is then processed and emitted in a melody that few outside of the rhym can decipher. In this case, Lady Alethea is capable of reading the melodies of these tiny fairies.
I managed to locate the Gully of the Ursa Rhym within a western crag in the Greater Faydark, on the way to Steamfont Mountains. The gully used to be a magical little village where numerous rhym buzzed about in melody, but the melody is no more. I have discovered the rhym village in disarray and destruction. The little village was ruined through dark magic, this is quite evident from the arcane smoke and unyielding flames that now consume the habitat.

Unable to properly decipher the clues before me, I was forced to enlist the aid of the legendary sleuth, Inspector Berlok Beeglesnoop. The great inspector told me that I could become an investigator myself should I acquire the three volume Investigator Guidelines, penned by the master detective himself. Although, in his old age, he would not offer me these valuable manuscripts, I was able to pry a few hints as to where I might find these books. Through an illogical and often frustrating conversation with the inspector, I was able to deduce that the books could be found in Felwithe.

Amidst the madness that now envelopes the once honorable city of Felwithe, I would find the Investigative Guidelines needed to become great detective. My first trial led me to the grove of a great tree. There could be found the fluttering pages of one of the books, ripped from the binder I found earlier. The second book would be found within a submerged chest, magically locked. Following the clues on the chest, I managed to unlock it. The final book would rest in the hands of a soul that now walks the fields of Ethernere. Luckily, I discovered a ritual that would allow me to call forth the spirit of General Jyleel, a great ancestor to Lady Alethea Jyleel.

Having read the Investigative Guidelines, I have grasped the thought process and guidelines of a great detective. I returned to the Gully and the Ursa Rhym to see if I could procure any bit of new evidence. What I found amidst the carnage of the tiny fairy village was a flaming pawn, a chess piece. The flames are clearly magical in nature and not the dark magic that existed everywhere else in the village. Before they met their demise,. the rhym left this clue for me… for anyone. What does it mean? It is merely a flaming pawn resting just a bit away from the chessboard it once called home.

I have gathered some evidence in the charred area known as the Broken Fields in Butcherblock Mountains. The bits of evidence appear to be the battered remnants of daggers and shields. These remnants must have taken great damage and not by an ordinary force. I could tell by the scorch marks and the condition of the metal that this was the result of dark magic. There may be someone around these Broken Fields that can shed some light on my findings. Perhaps they may have even been a witness to this carnage.

I spoke to a talking rat named Chypp, last ‘p’ silent. He was a witness to the conflict that created the ruin that is now the Broken Fields. It appears as though a secret meeting occurred here where one group of brutes and evil grins passed along a magical sword to another group of brutes and evil grins. It is my belief that the brutes were orcs and by the evidence collected, they are Ree orcs from the Commonlands. These Ree orcs brought the magic sword to another group that then betrayed, using the gift to destroy the couriers. I believe it is time to travel to the Commonlands and gather information where the Ree orcs keep hidden from the Overlord and Freeport.

I collected a lot of evidence that has led me to the conclusion that the dark elves allied with the Ree orcs are none other than the Ebon Mask. I have heard tales of old about this old house of thieves that hailed from the Teir’Dal city of Neriak. They were said to be some of the craftiest thieves on Norrath and excellent assassins also. Apparently, they did not die with the collapse of their city. The Raiders of Ree are orcs removed from their empire, this I have learned. They now live for the heavy coin of the black marker. What would bring a band of opportunistic orcs and a dark elf thieves house together? More evidence is required.

I have found that the Ebon Mask worked alongside the orcs in an expedition to a hidden valley where the soul of Zarvonn is contained for eternity. This ancient mage was once a member of the Academy of the Arcane Science. I am not sure what the spirit of Zarvonn knew, but a spirit that hailed from one of the greatest mage guilds on Norrath most likely holds many secrets. His secret had something to do with the flaming sword that was rushed to Faydwer and used against the courier force of the Ree and Ebon Mask. Such a secret would reveal much about the sword, its origin and where it now resides. Such revelations could only be held by the leader of this eccentric pack of orcs.

While investigating the throne room of the leader of the orcs, I was forced into battle. Lord Ree and his minions were foolish to challenge me. In the end, they met their demise. After the battle I found what appeared to be a book detailing a heist for a “Sword.” Unfortunately, the pages had been ripped out. I was them ambushed by Teir’Dal agents of the Ebon Mask, supreme rogues of the now defunct Thex Dynasty. I was forced to do battle or end up another notch in their belt. They have their best, but in the end, I emerged victorious. as they fell to the floor, the ripped pages from the heist journal flew into the air. Perhaps the pages will finally explain what this caper was all about.

Soulfrire was stolen from Freeport. The mastermind behind the heist was the Foci of the Academy of Arcane Science. She hired agents of the Ebon Mask to infiltrate the citadel via a forgotten portal left open by one of the original engineers of the fortress when it was known as the Academy of Arcane Science. The Ebon Mask hired the Raiders of Ree, opportunistic orcs. Using Ree smuggling routes, they transported Soulfire to Butcherblock Mountains. There the sword would be traded for a scroll desired bu the Foci, but a betrayal occurred and the Ree and Ebon Mask couriers were slain. All i know now is that an ambassador king was the one that betrayed the heist.

I exchanged information with Lady Alethea Jyleel of the Order of Marr. I handed over my notes, but kept this case journal for my records. According to Lady Alethea, the Overlord of Freeport was not fooled by a false sword that replaced Soulfire in the vaults of Dethknell Citadel. He has ordered his finest agents to recover the great sword. Together we discovered that it was a band of Lucanic Knights that razed the Gully of the Ursa Ryhm. If that is so, then the Overlord is one step ahead of the Order of Marr.

Lady Alethea bid me farewell, knowing that such a great crusade as this cannot be left to anyone other than her ancient order of knights. I have taken her reward for my deed, but I cannot shake the mystery behind Soulfire. Where is it and why is it so important to anyone other than the Overlord of Freeport? Perhaps is I can discover who this ambassador king is someday, I can reveal the secret of Soulfire. As for this investigation, the Case of the Ursa Rhym is closed… but the Case of the Soulfire Sword is soon approaching.

Steamfont Mountains: Past and Present

The sounds of gnomish cheers and clockwork gears echo throughout the continent of Faydwer as the Steamfont Mountains transforms its appearance. This revamp will be included with the Game Update on Thursday, October 25th. Read part of the lore surrounding this area and view a photo gallery look at the changes that were made.

Background Lore:

Named for the natural geysers and springs found in its rocky peaks, these mountains surround the gnome city of Ak’Anon. It is known that the dragons had once dwelled here, for the fossilized remains of very young dragon can be viewed inside a small valley. The presence of Steamfont’s drakes also indicates that the region may once have had some greater significance to the children of Veeshan. However, that history was lost long before the arrival of the elves or the surfacing of the gnomes.

Today, Steamfont acts as a training ground for young gnomish pupils, as well as for those elves and dwarves that brave the dangerous trek through the Lesser Faydark. Minotaurs from the mines of Meldrath are among the most challenging foes due to their social and cooperative nature.

The mountains of Steamfont are bordered by the Lesser Faydark to the east, and the gates to the glorious subterranean city of Ak’Anon to the far west – gates installed safely within a mountain face and heavily guarded by some of Ak’Anon’s most renown warriors.

Lanys Reborn

Source: http://web.archive.org/web/20001017161206/everquest.station.sony.com/hht/h_hq_Reborn.shtml

After the events of Bloody Kithicor, the Teir`Dal were left without answers as to what happened to Lanys T`Vyl. The King and Queen of the dark elves charged Vizier D`Kalz, a priest of great power, with the task of finding the answers to their many questions.

Vizier D`Kalz calls a gathering at the skeleton stone in Nektulos Forest for all to witness the summoning of Laarthik K`Shin’s spirit. The summoning is successful and Laarthik comes forward in a ghostly form. He tells them the story of Bloody Kithicor from his perspective, how his invocation to the mysterious stone opened a portal to the plane of Hate, through which Innoruuk snatched Lanys to save her. Tunare used the opening of the portal to her advantage as well, banishing Lanys’s corporeal form from Norrath.

Laarthik also explains to them about the act of shifting spirits. Being an elder Shadowknight and a practitioner of the dark magics, he knows that spirit shifting is indeed possible. He speaks of a Gnome necromancer named Falrazim Zaftamor that has done this. He tells them the story of this powerful gnome.

“Falrazim has successfully spirit shifted into the body of a drake to prolong his fading physical life. In the form of a drake, Falrazim’s has found that the dragon magic is completely different from the arts of necromancy, and only those born a dragon can comprehend its usage. Unfortunately for Falrazim, the gestures and incantations necessary to the practice of necromancy are impossible in drake form. He struck a deal with Meldrath, where Meldrath would help change Falrazim back into a Gnome if Falrazim first helps him complete several tasks. However, Meldrath’s tasks have lasted for over 300 years, and Falrazim is growing very restless. He now seeks an alternative to Meldrath’s help.”

Laarthik informs them that they can find Falrazim within the Steamfont Mountains. He is needed for his knowledge to bring Lanys back to Norrath, and should not be harmed.

Vizier D`Kalz sends a party accompanied by Dolis Sha`vlal, a revered Shadowknight and survivor of the Battle of Bloody Kithicor, to Steamfont to speak with Falrazim.

In Steamfont Mountains, Falrazim Zaftamor is approached by Dolis Sha`vlal and the others. After hearing of what happened, Falrazim agrees to help them under one condition. They are to find him a new host as well, and use the stone to transfer his spirit into it. Falrazim would never be so eager to help anyone or admit to such weaknesses, however he is in quite an odd situation and has been for the past 300 years.

Falrazim gives a note with the spell needed to seize the spirit and place it within the stone, and gives the stone itself to the highest-powered necromancer in the party. Dolis Sha`vlal and the party return to Neriak to get further orders from Vizier D`Kalz. Falrazim waits in Steamfont for their return.

Back in Neriak, they tell Vizier D`Kalz of what they have learned and inform him that they need two hosts. Vizier D`Kalz sends them to the Plane of Hate to capture the soul of Lanys T`Vyl and bring it back to Norrath.

Upon entering the Plane of Hate, they search for Lanys. Once they find her, a brief interaction ensues and the necromancer mutters the words. “Vethau N`Vac Reithos” he chants repeatedly as the other members of the party join in.

“Vethau N`Vac Reithos”

“Vethau N`Vac Reithos”

“Vethau N`Vac Reithos”

Lanys’s form collapses and her soul flows in a blood red stream of light, shot through with bolts of blue, into Falrazim’s stone. Dolis Sha`vlal kneels next to Lanys’s inert body and removes the pieces of her Abhorrent Armor of Darkness.

After returning to Steamfont, the party sees that Vizier D`Kalz and Falrazim Zaftamor are awaiting their arrival. The two hosts, stripped of their souls, lie upon the ground with blank faces. Falrazim gives the necromancer a note containing more text that must be read for the ritual to take place.

The necromancer begins to chant, “Ver mitra tec piof… Ver ir ostryl… Ver N’Vac…. Ver tev’Ve.” The others begin to chant as well.

“Ver mitra tec piof… Ver ir ostryl… Ver N’Vac…. Ver tev’Ve”

“Ver mitra tec piof… Ver ir ostryl… Ver N’Vac…. Ver tev’Ve”

“Ver mitra tec piof… Ver ir ostryl… Ver N’Vac…. Ver tev’Ve”

Dolis Sha`vlal lays the Abhorrent Armor of Darkness onto the ground next to the bodies. As the Child of Hate’s soul seeps from the stone, traveling to the host, the pieces of armor attach themselves to the body. Falrazim’s soul, in turn, is pulled into the stone and is transferred to the gnome body.

Thus, the Child of Hate returns to Norrath.

Lobal's Cures for Undeath

“Lobal Postugger’s Cures for Undeath The practices of our unsavory kin that dwell in the mines of malfunction have caused a plague of undead. In order to help us rid the Steamfonts of the monstrosities my rogues and I have developed some concoctions that will rapidly increase the rate of decay in non-living tissue. The most basic of the concoc- tions simply involves mixing two piles of EMBALMING DUST in a mortar and pestle. A POISON VIAL and SUSPENSION are also needed for storage. More effective but also more difficult to mash properly is the pulp of two KINGS THORNS, a SEALED POISON VIAL, and CONSTRICT SUSPENSION The most difficult but also the most effective concoction involves grinding and mixing one KINGS THORN, one pile of EMBALMING DUST, one part WOOD ROSE, and LARENT SUSPEN- SION. A SEALED POISON VIAL is needed for storage. This will cause extremely rapid decomp- osition Perhaps with the assistance of these concoctions the Steamfont Mountains will soon be rid of the undead.”

Pages from Brodders Diary IV

“The Drakes of Steamfont tend to rest near some of the hotter steamvents in that land. There they shed their old skins, on this grows a lichen of properties unsurpassed in all of Norrath. Collecting this lichen, some water and a clay pot I joked that this would combine to make a potable alcohol of unusual flavors. It did indeed, and to Catbik’s distaste proved much more palatable than his favored gnomish spirits, and nearly as smooth as some of the aged Vodkas I’ve tasted. To keep the Gnomes happy I named this a Gnomish Cleaning fluid recipe as it resulted in two fluids. The pot itself decanted and filtered into a bottle provided a small potable beverage that I enjoyed, but the remains in the pot proved, once aged, that it’d make a great stripper and cleanser. A LICHEN COVERED DRAKE SCALE, found near steam vents, cooking POT, WATER FLASK, and a BOTTLE, result in SUPERIOR LICHEN SPIRITS, and a pot of cleaning paste. The Minotaurs of Steamfront had few ideas on brewing that I discovered, but it’s rumored that a visiting Minotaur Hero had a case of huge bottles of a Malt heavy brew, from our tort…um questioning sessions, with several slavers in the area and compounded by my knowledge of brewing, I’ve determined that this MINOTAUR HERO’S BREW was a heavy malted liquor. I think I’ve properly reproduced it, though due to the varied natures of waters, hops, and malt around the lands its quality can vary. Until I find the proper recipe this one shall bear its name. Take thee three MALTS of heavy quality, a single YEAST, two measures of WATER, and two SHORT BEERS to start the reaction, into a CASK of darken wood place these and let steep. Decant into bottles of Large size, suited for heroes, cover this bottle in brown parchment or leather to keep the sunlight off of it and provide discretion for others will want one themselves. I’ve found large bottles produced in Feerrott, by the ogre glass blowers, and in Solusek by the goblins there.”

Excerpts of the Journal of Erud III

“Journal Excerpt Seven Our friend Tolsarian has led us from Kelethin deeper into the Faydark to the High Elf, or Koada’Dal as they are called in their own tongue, city of Felwithe. I must say compared to the tree city of Kelethin, Felwithe is indeed a splendid sight to behold. It’s white walls and palaces soaring high above the canopy of the forest. I am surprised to find that the Koada’Dal are much taller than their Fier’Dal relatives, their complexion is much paler and their hair and eyes the colors of the stars and skies instead of the earth and trees. We received a far less hospitable welcome to the city of the High Elves than we had received in Kelethin. The guards at the cities gate questioned Tolsarian for quite some time and looked over each member of my company thoroughly before admitting us within the outer walls. Once inside the city proper it became apparent that while the Feir’Dal are wise, the Koada’Dal are the intelligent branch of the elven family. I have beheld wonders in this city beyond any I have imagined. In the northern quarter of the city is a tower where the elven sorcerers study and store their magical tomes. If only I could gain admittance to the tower and browse the texts myself. Journal Excerpt Eight A member of my company has acquired a set of High Elven tomes that he claims have come from the tower of the Keepers of the Art, the name the Koada’Dal sorcerers have given to themselves. He has not mentioned how the books came to be in his possession and I dare not ask until we are far beyond the gates of this city. Tolsarian has agreed to take us through the Faydark to the borders of the Steamfont Mountains, home of the Gnomes, creatures of distant relation to the dwarves of Butcherblock. I do not look forward to another stay in a subterranean city but from what I have heard of the gnomes, the discomfort may be rewarded with knowledge pertaining to my interests. I am also eager to be away from the condescending nature of the Koada’Dal, despite the magnificence of their city and the wonders they possess. Some of my company find my reaction to the demeanor of the high elves to be amusing but I do not share in their humor. Journal Excerpt Nine The Steamfont Mountains are unlike any mountain range I have beheld. Great geysers jettison steam and scalding water into the air and mist and fog blankets the ground and sky. Tolsarian has left our company for the time being and will await our return at a small elven outpost in the Faydark not far from the borders of Steamfont. I have begun research to decipher the texts that were acquired in Felwithe but fear that what few tomes I have brought with me on the journey are not sufficient for proper study and I will not likely make much progress with the elven texts until I am able to return to my study in Qeynos. “

History of Lake Elizerain

Lake Elizerain sat quietly upon Faydwer for ages. Until the elves’ departure from the distant eastern shores of Tunaria, few if any folk visited the Lake, and it has no recorded name before that time. Wild beasts and creatures from the mountains roamed the area until the Koada’Dal came and the wilderness retreated to some extent. The creatures of the area still maintained a presence, though, and even after the Fier’Dal and Koada’Dal sent rangers, paladins, warriors, and scouts to colonize and secure the area, most of it remained untamed. Because of the persistent wildness of the region (and since the elves soon settled in other, more hospitable parts of the Faydark), the small elven communities near the Lake soon shrank. However, the settlements by the lake were never entirely abandoned, simply because the pristine waters were one of the few delights held precious by Princess Elizerain, who became queen of the elves around this time.

Throughout the nearly three centuries after the Hejira, Elizerain proved a very potent and capable queen. She was much beloved by her people and oversaw great innovations and improvements among their culture. Much of her success was attributed in later years to her legendary divinatory
ability, which guided the elves on a course that kept them generally safe and content in their new home. Legend claims that when it came time for Queen Elizerain to pass onto the next life, she bade her people bury her in the favored place of her youth when her time for passing came.
Thus, the Koada’Dal put her to rest in the waters of the newly named Lake Elizerain.

In the many years after her death, while the lakeside settlements faded away almost entirely, pilgrims and mystics came to the lake in droves to try to tap into the divinatory ability that Queen Elizerain’s burial purportedly granted the waters. A few posts were maintained by the lake
to accommodate these wanderers. The years passed relatively peacefully by the lake, although the local minotaurs and kobolds continued to harass the elves, as they always had.

In recent years, however, events have taken a darker turn. For many centuries, the dutifully maintained elven watch towers on the eastern shores of Faydwer peered out over the Sea of Dawn. Only in the last two centuries have the elves abandoned the majority of these towers, as the
ancient fear of danger from the east has gradually given way to apathy in the face of other dangers all around the elves.

Only a decade or so ago, the southernmost of these towers, which rests against an eastern spur of the Steamfonts, opened its doors to a young adventurer. This gifted youth bore with him several artifacts he had won while delving deep into the mountains nearby. Unfortunately, unbeknownst to either the adventurer or the tower’s handful of warriors, these objects were dark artifacts of Innoruuk, and their corruption spread rapidly through the tower. Now, dark forces control of the former Koada’Dal holding.

The Koada’Dal have attempted reconnoiters against the tower, and the defenses of the darkened tower have proved strong. At present, there are simply too few of the Clerics of Tunare to undertake a dangerous quest to secure such a distant outlying enemy holding, as they are busy defending Felwithe from more immediate threats.
