Jared Padalecki has been cast in the upcoming third season of “Fire Country” at CBS, Variety has confirmed.
Padalecki will appear in three episodes in a recurring role. He will play Camden, who is described as “a SoCal firefighter and maverick with a surfer swagger who is a force to be reckoned with and immediately recognizes Bode’s (Max Thieriot) raw talent.”
The role keeps Padalecki in business with CBS Studios, which produces “Fire Country.” Padalecki recently starred in the studio’s series “Walker,” which aired for four seasons at The CW with Padalecki in the lead role and executive producing.

Jimmy Kimmel appeared on the latest episode of Gavin Newsom, Marshawn Lynch and Doug Hendrickson’s “Politickin’” podcast and opened up on his decision to turn down hosting the 2025 Oscars. The late night favorite is a four-time Oscars host, having emceed Hollywood’s biggest night in 2017, 2018, 2023 and 2024. Tokyo was dubbed the “first streaming games” by the International Olympics Committee. But Paris 2024 may be the first time the Olympics has actually moved past primetime. Thanks to streaming and social media, this year marks a shift from a largely broadcast and news media event to an all-encompassing global digital spectacle.
Heading into the final weekend the Games had been streamed for 17 billion minutes across all of NBCUniversal’s digital platforms — a streaming total that tops Tokyo 2020 and Beijing 2022 combined.
“Since the opening ceremony, we’ve been up hundreds of percent across video views, impressions and engagement,” Lyndsay Signor, SVP of consumer engagement for NBC Sports Group, told TheWrap. “We’ve blown the doors off of every metric that we set forth in terms of our benchmarks.”

In the clip, which aired during the closing ceremony of Paris 2024, Cruise jumped into the French stadium before walking through a crowd of fans and accepting the official Olympic flag from Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass and Simone Biles.

The Supernatural brothers are sort of together again—on the same network, at least. Jared Padalecki will be appearing in three episodes of Fire Country Season 3, Deadline reports. His character Camden is described as “a SoCal firefighter and maverick with a surfer swagger who is a force to be reckoned with and immediately recognizes Bode’s (Max Thieriot) raw talent.” The outlet also reports that this could lead to a third series in the franchise, though that’s still in the early stages. Right now, we know that Sheriff Country, starring Morena Baccarin (who guest starred in a Fire Country Season 2 episode), is on CBS’ schedule for the 2025-2026 season. Padalecki, prior to his four seasons of Walker, starred as Sam Winchester for 15 seasons on Supernatural alongside Jensen Ackles as his brother Dean. Ackles appeared in an episode of Tracker last season and will return to that CBS drama in its upcoming second season.

Over its three seasons, “Abbott Elementary” has won four Emmy Awards and landed 20 nominations, with nine of those nods coming from the upcoming 2024 ceremony on September 15. According to series star Chris Perfetti, much of the ABC sitcom’s success is due to the “very specific and very real” cast of characters developed by “Abbott Elementary” creator, actress and writer Quinta Brunson.
“The mockumentary lets us rest on investing in the real lives of these people. I think if [the characters] were more caricatures, it’s just not a sustainable thing.” Perfetti said. “I felt like Quinta was writing jokes for herself and...

Malika Andrews is being commended by viewers for the way she handled her live broadcast of NBA Today as a 4.4 magnitude struck the Los Angeles-set studio on Monday, August 12. Andrews was talking with former player and basketball analyst Rebecca Lobo when the earthquake struck suddenly, shaking the set and camera operator to the point that the visual framing was off-kilter for a few seconds, but quickly fixed. In the midst of Andrews’ chat with Lobo, she quickly segued into addressing the earthquake, “… As we have a bit of an earthquake here in Los Angeles,” she said, transitioning the conversation. Kathryn Hahn has always been more than happy to take on a supporting role. Her comedic career blossomed in the early 2000s with bit parts in Adam McKay films like “Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy” and “Step Brothers,” and she also garnered dramatic bonafides with Sam Mendes’ “Revolutionary Road” and M. Night Shyamalan’s “The Visit.” Most recently, she’s helped fill out ensembles in live-action projects like “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery” and animated ones such as “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.” As her career has developed in the last decade, so too has her center-stage appeal, with roles in HBO’s “Mrs. Fletcher” and Tamara Jenkins’ “Private Life” placing her in lead position. Now, it seems, Marvel is taking notice as they’ve decided to spin her side character from “WandaVision” off into her own Disney+ show with “Agatha All Along.”

Because low-stakes rivalries are the safest way to avoid attracting legions of online haters, militant protesters, and/or Colleen Hoover stans. Welcome to It’s a Hit! In this series, IndieWire speaks to creators and showrunners behind a few of our favorite television programs about the moment they realized their show was breaking big.
While there was not really anyone, not even Netflix, that anticipated just how huge “Baby Reindeer” would become, its Emmy-nominated creator and star Richard Gadd told IndieWire over Zoom, “I always believed in it. I thought it was a hit when I was working on it.”
Speaking more on the Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series nominee that explores his real life experience with stalking and sexual assault, the Scottish comedian said, “In a television process where there’s a lot of voices and a lot of questions being asked and a lot of feedback being given, I think it’s very easy to get disillusioned sometimes. And it’s very easy to sometimes see swaths of notes...

The Bachelorette Season 12 alum James McCoy Taylor was arrested on August 4 in College Station, Texas, and a new probable cause warrant is shedding light on the shocking accusations against him. According to the warrant, obtained by People, he “intentionally or knowingly by force, intimidation or deception, restrain[ed] [a woman] without her consent by restricting the moments of the said [woman], by shoving her to the ground, getting on top of her and using his body weight to prevent her from getting off the ground.” Local outlet Kbtx alleged that the victim was a 19-year-old Blinn College student, but her name was not in the warrant. Taylor, who is 38, and the woman met at Manziel’s Money Bar before heading to Taylor’s condo. After the woman “changed her mind and wanted to leave,” Taylor allegedly “tackled and got on top of her,” but she was eventually “able to escape and flee the scene...

Good editing, like a good joke, is all about rhythm. It guides you through a story with a sense of build-up and payoff, sometimes almost invisibly and sometimes in such a way that seeing the structure is part of what makes it so funny. Editor Joanna Naugle can speak to both modes, having edited all kinds of series — and comedy specials, too; she happens to be Emmy nominated this year for both her work on “The Bear” and on Ramy Youssef’s comedy special “More Feelings.”
Those two very different hours of streaming TV are a strange but very fun back-to-back watch; you can start to sense Naugle’s sensibility and her sympathy for her protagonists at work. It helps that “More Feelings” was also directed by “The Bear” showrunner Christopher Storer and shot by “The Bear” Dp Andrew Wehde; meanwhile, Youssef directed Episode 4 of Season 2, “Honeydew,” which Naugle co-edited with Adam Epstein.

Nickelodeon and Paramount+ head of global kids and family marketing Sabrina Caluori is exiting her role two years after being upped to the position, Variety has learned.
Caluori’s departure comes at a time of great upheaval at Paramount, following last week’s announcement that the company will be laying off 15% of its staff — approximately 2,000 employees — ahead of its planned acquisition by Skydance Media.
In July 2022, Caluori was elevated to executive vice president and head of marketing and brand strategy at Nickelodeon upon the exit of then-chief marketing officer Jenny Wall. In her role, Caluori led on- and off-air consumer...

What do Robert Downey Jr., Idris Elba, Lily Gladstone and Maya Rudolph have in common?
These four stars are not only nominees at this year’s Primetime Emmy Awards but are also the sole representatives of their respective series: Downey (supporting actor in a limited series for “The Sympathizer”), Elba (lead drama actor for “Hijack”), Gladstone (supporting actress in a limited series for “Under the Bridge”) and Rudolph (lead comedy actress for “Loot”). While each of these talented actors has a shot at winning, history shows that it’s rare for someone to take home an Emmy when their show has no other nominations.

Kit Harington is admitting that the final season of “Game of Thrones” made some “mistakes” when it came to the storyline.
The actor told GQ UK that some swings “didn’t quite work” for the plot. There was viral fan backlash to the controversial series finale that saw fan favorites like Emilia Clarke’s Daenerys die, while other beloved characters such as Harington’s Jon Snow were met with lackluster fates. The series ran for eight seasons, from 2011 and 2019.
“I think if there was any fault with the end of ‘Thrones,’ is that we were all so fucking tired, we couldn’t have gone on longer,” Harington said. “And so I understand some people thought it was rushed, and I might agree with them. But I’m not sure there was any alternative. I look at pictures of me in that final season, and I look exhausted. I look spent.

It’s hard to believe that only a few months have passed during three seasons in the Emily in Paris universe, but that’s been plenty of time for a lot to happen. In Season 3 alone, Emily (Lily Collins) made some major career decisions, relationship decisions, even beauty decisions. She cut bangs, people! Nothing says “going through it” like getting bangs.
But a lot more went down besides that questionable coiffure. Below, we’ve distilled the drama into the five biggest things to remember from Season 3. And if you’d like to revisit the season in depth, read on for recaps of every episode.

Will Packer does not make films for Hollywood. Though his career has spanned 30 years, and his movies have collectively grossed over $1 billion at the box office, the prolific producer learned this powerful lesson early on.
“When I made that very first movie, ‘Chocolate City,’ I invited all of Hollywood to come to our world premiere,” he told Variety during a sit-down conversation at the Martha’s Vineyard African American Film Festival (Mvaaff), where the series premiered. “This is how audacious we were: I did a black-tie premiere in Tallahassee, Florida, on the campus of Florida A&m University (Famu) in the Lee Hall Student Auditorium.

In late July, Maya Rudolph’s name was trending on social media. The reason had nothing to do with her four Emmy nominations for her work on three different shows — a feat that is not only impressive but also unheard of. It was because President Joe Biden announced that he wasn’t seeking reelection, and throwing his support behind Vice President Kamala Harris, who is now the Democratic nominee.
The extent of the buzz generated by “Saturday Night Live” fans who immediately thought of Rudolph reprising her role of the VP left her speechless. “It was wild!” Rudolph tells Variety.

One of the liveliest consumer activations at last month’s San Diego Comic-Con was for ABC’s “Abbott Elementary.” Dubbed “A.V.A. Fest” (A Very Abbott Festival), the experience attracted thousands of attendees — all hoping to hop on a carnival swing, ride a tall slide into a pool of plastic balls, hammer a strength tester and get a free “Abbott”-themed trucker cap.
It was quite an event for a show that isn’t exactly your typical Comic-Con fare. There aren’t any dragons, superheroes or zombies in the three seasons I’ve enjoyed so far of “Abbott Elementary.
