UFC officials are “concerned” but aren’t rushing to judgment following Diego Brandao’s recent arrest at a strip club.

In a statement sent to MMAjunkie, officials said they are aware of the situation, first reported by abqjournal.com, and that they are “concerned by the nature of the reported allegations.”

The 28-year-old Brazilian and Jackson-Wink MMA fighter has been charged with aggravated battery and three counts of aggravated assault following Thursday’s incident, in which Brandao is accused of pointing a gun at a patron and an employee before striking the employee in the face with the weapon. Prior to that, he allegedly argued with a DJ and attempted to punch employees before being denied reentry to the club.

According to online records, Brandao, who was arrested on Friday, left the Bernalillo County Metropolitan Detention Center on Saturday night after posting $15,000 bail.

Here’s the UFC’s full statement:

“We are aware that UFC featherweight Diego Brandao was arrested Friday following an altercation at a business establishment in Albuquerque, N.M. We are in the process of gathering more information at this time.

“While we are concerned by the nature of the reported allegations, it is important to note that Brandao is entitled to due process in a court of law.

“We will have no further comment until more information can be gathered.”

Brandao is currently scheduled for Tuesday’s Nevada State Athletic Commission hearing in Las Vegas after testing positive for marijuana metabolites earlier this year. The failed test, which resulted in a temporary suspension, came in conjunction with the featherweight’s submission loss to Brian Ortega at UFC 195.

Brandao (20-11 MMA, 6-4 UFC), who won “The Ultimate Fighter 14” in 2011, had posted back-to-back wins over Jimy Hettes and Katsunori Kikuno before the Ortega defeat.
