The Super Mario Bros. Movie has undoubtedly been a massive success for both Nintendo and Illumination, setting records across the board and putting a smile on cinema goers faces. Now, legendary video game creator, Shigeru Miyamoto, has reconfirmed to Japanese news site Nihon Keizai Shimbun that there is “no doubt” that he will make another film based on Nintendo franchises. We don’t know what’s next after the success of the Super Mario Bros. Movie, but it is sure to end up being another smash hit.

  1. For a sequel, it’d be great if they went the route of many Mario RPG games and made a new antagonist and have Bowser team up with Peach and Mario.

    1. bruh! the mario movie was basically disney mario! as safe as it can get! and after the success.. these suckers wont go for anything brave or original! get ready for more generic sh!t

      1. @Eddi

The idea I put out there IS safe because it’s an idea based off of extremely popular and beloved games… which is what the first movie was.

Including ideas like Star Road and galaxy stuff lets them introduce Rosalina and more lumas… which would be hugely popular (I imagine). Really, they could just take the story from SMRPG and replace Geno (and other SE-owned characters) and swap him with Rosalina and make a passable film. Hopefully there’s a little more originality that that… but Stars, Power Stars, Star people, Star Road, etch… those are Mario staples. They could totally make a plot around that and have Mario and Bowser team up.

    1. Other M was mistranslated. That’s why it’s ruined Samus and Adam characters. Original Japanese script is pretty great. I think it’s a masterpiece, imo.

      1. I’m aware of the mistranslations in the English version, but while it does improve Samus and Adam as characters a little bit it still doesn’t fix the story as a whole all that much, and obviously doesn’t stop the game from being a chore to play.

So I’d still rather they stray faaar away from anything Other M related if they do decide to make a Metroid movie.

    1. No Zelda period. Illumination cannot do the animation needed for it. The only way it would work is if they did a kiddie toon link Zelda and I don’t think the fans really want that.
Also they already ruined the Mario movie so I do not want to see anymore illumination films.

  2. They gotta make a dk movie surely. This would work well with king k rool etc and all the dk characters, but maybe ( just maybe ) we’ll get a new game first!

    1. I think a donkey kong country movie would make the most sense. The kongs were major characters in the mario film and you already introduced major kongs like Donkey kong and cranky kong to the audience as well as showcasing other characters like diddy, dixie, and chunky. Lots of other characters to use and even have the kremlings and King K rool

  3. I would be head over heels for a Mario party movie in the style of Battleworld from marvel secret wars

    1. I don’t think Zelda is really a sure thing tbh. If it is, it’ll either be animated and based off of the BOTW artstyle, story, and characters…. or it will be live-action and probably based off Twilight Princess or a similar story with the same energy.

Either way, Link will definitely at some point in the movie say the line, “Excuuuse me, Princess”

        1. Breath of the Wild is essentially the Zelda movie so I’m not certain it’ll head to the big screen anytime soon.

          1. @Isaac TV
I feel like that evidence increases the likelihood, not decreases it. With since BOTW, they released Age of Calamity and a Champions book and now the lore is continuing in TOTK. I could see them sticking with this timeline for a while and making an animated show or movie.

    2. A movie couldn’t be anything but rushed when we’re talking about Zelda unless if we go for a trilogy. The child portion of OoT would be a movie all on its own.

  4. Personally making a DK movie next makes the most sense to me. There already have been talks at a earlier point of possibly making one.

  5. Yeah I really want to see what they could do with Metroid. Apparently the creator or producer of the Netflix Castlevania series said once that he’s interested in making a Metroid series.

  6. Well, here’s the thing. I’m mostly excited for Zelda and Kirby movies coming out. One thing I don’t get is why make Smash movie when the whole point of Nintendo and Illumination is to make Miyamoto and Meledandri’s brand IP canon to one another. For now, I’m Ok with the Super Mario Bros Movie only. My thought behind this is to get together with Sakurai and Gameloft developers, who own the Despicable Me gaming rights, to create and develop a Super Smash Bros sequel game with characters from the Illumination universe (Gru, the Minions, Lucy, El Macho, Snowball, Scarlet Overkill, among others), why not make that a priority to them?

My message for those who say, “A SMASH MOVIE IS COMING AND WE FEEL IT! AWWW, YES, GIVE IT TO US!!!”: You guys want Nintendo to leverage the same formula as Marvel, such as “killing-off, the universal main icon and turn other heroes into SOFS (shells-of-their-former-selves) or jokes? What do you want? You want Nintendo to ultimately fall into the hellhole of the factory-filmmaking industry (worth billions and billions of dollars)? You want to Nintendo to become creatively bankrupt? Be very ultimately decisively careful what you wish for!!! Don’t make Nintendo turn to a “feel good then self-destruct” drug (aside from VG addition). WATCH WHAT YOU MANIFEST, PLEASE!!!
