At KLM Cityhopper, we are proud to be part of the world's first test of a hydrogen-powered Ground Power Unit (H2-GPU) at Schiphol. The H2-GPU supplies our aircraft on the apron with electricity, which is used for lighting and power in the cockpit. This world first is part of the TULIPS – Green Airports project, involving partners like zepp.solutions, Dynell GmbH, and KES B.V. and co-funded by the European Commission, is yet another step towards a more sustainable ground operation. We are committed to achieving an emission-free ground operation. Unlike zero-emission battery powered e-GPUs that require special charging points, the H2-GPU can be refueled on-site, saving significant time and reduce unnecessary equipment movements. This H2-GPU has the potential to eliminate our reliance on diesel powered GPU’s as current battery solutions do not always meet operational requirements. The TULIPS project, coordinated by Schiphol, brings together 33 European aviation parties and knowledge institutes to develop new technologies. Alongside the H2-GPU, the project focuses demonstrating blending and delivery of large-scale SAF volumes into airports, sustainable energy storage, and circular material solutions, supporting the EU Green Deal objectives. #Innovation #HydrogenPowered #Aviation #KLMCityhopper #TULIPSproject

Together we celebrated Pride in style on the first-ever KLM-Delta boat during this year’s Amsterdam Canal Pride. Thank you Delta Air Lines for this great collaboration. Next to this amazing event, our colleagues of our LGBTIQ+ network KLM Over the Rainbow organized many more activities leading up to this weekend’s Canal Pride: such as an inspiring event about gender diversity at our headquarters, participation in Amsterdam’s Pride March and an unforgettable Pride Bingo in elderly home Groenelaan near our headquarters! 🌈🎉 📸: Rank Studios #KLM #Pride #AmsterdamPride #Together

We are thrilled to announce that our first Airbus A321neo has successfully completed its maiden flight at Hamburg-Finkenwerder Airport! 🚀 This crucial flight was conducted by a skilled crew of Airbus Test Pilots and Test Engineers, whose main objective was to test warning and alert systems, as well as perform checks that are not possible on the ground. The aircraft was flown from its lowest flyable speed to its maximum allowable speed, ensuring all systems are functioning optimally. This is just the beginning of many test flights before we officially welcome this cutting-edge aircraft into our fleet in the coming weeks. The introduction of the A321neo marks a significant milestone in KLM's fleet renewal efforts, aligning with the sector plan of "Cleaner, Quieter, More Efficient." These new aircraft are considerably quieter than the current generation of planes and result in a 21% reduction in CO2 emissions per passenger-kilometer. Stay tuned for more updates on the A321neo 💙. #KLM #A321neo #Aviation #Innovation #FleetRenewal

KLM and Schiphol started the second phase of the trial with this electric self-driving bus. ⚡️ The bus will run several times a day in the next weeks to pick up arriving KLM Cityhopper crew and drop them off at the terminal. The vehicles are equipped with sensors and special cameras and use GPS signals to locate. The buses have a 360 degree view because they are equipped with LIDAR technology. This allows the vehicles to detect and anticipate objects up to 30 meters away. #KLM #Innovation #Aviation

KLM and ZeroAvia will work towards a demonstration flight using ZeroAvia’s ZA2000 zero-emission, hydrogen-electric engines for large regional turboprop. ✈️ Hydrogen-electric engines use hydrogen in fuel cells to generate electricity, which is then used to power electric motors to turn the aircraft’s propellers. The only emission is low-temperature water vapor, meaning a significant reduction in climate impact when compared with typical kerosene-fueled flights. As a first major target milestone, the companies aim to conduct an initial A-to-B flight demonstration between two airport locations in 2026. With this collaboration, KLM and ZeroAvia are providing the evidence-base for adoption of cleanerflight on KLM’s network. Furthermore, the demonstration project will accelerate the development of concepts of operations for hydrogen aircraft across the EU. #KLM #Innovation #FutureOfAviation

The IT malfunction that caused disruptions worldwide for airlines and airports today has been almost completely resolved at KLM. Air traffic to and from Schiphol can be fully resumed. However, many flights have been delayed or canceled out of necessity. These disruptions in the schedule are expected to continue this evening (CET) and into the weekend as we restart our flight operations. As a result, it is possible that we will need to cancel more flights to get the operation back on track. We advise passengers to keep an eye on flight information on the KLM.com website or in the KLM app. We are doing everything we can to ensure our passengers reach their travel destinations.
