NRB Membership Assistant/Database Specialist

PURPOSE:
This position provides administrative, project, and executive support to the membership department; facilitates intra- and inter-organizational communication and cooperation; and provides support and customer care to NRB membership. This position will be the main employee responsible for building, correcting, and growing member records in NRB’s Protech database as well as pulling sometimes complex information for various operational purposes, like marketing and research. Additional duties will include (but not be limited to) invoicing, tracking key indicators, making member care calls, researching potential members, building membership prospect lists, writing or editing materials, updating portions of the website, and managing aspects of member events and assisting with check-ins and other even-related tasks.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Experience, and Training
The ideal candidate will have 1) expertise in building, maintaining, and pulling information from a database, preferably Protech, 2) experience invoicing, 3) experience writing and editing, 4) experience with special events, 5) experience updating a website, 6) a bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, English, or related field, or related experience in customer service.

Knowledge, Skills, Ability

  • Must possess excellent organizational, interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, in particular, telephone skills; demonstrated critical and analytical thinking, project management, and detail management skills; a high level of judgment, flexibility, and stress tolerance; and an energetic, creative, enthusiastic yet professional perspective on membership issues.
  • Must possess the ability to meet deadlines, negotiate conflicts, take initiative, prioritize and multitask, assume project responsibility, work well independently, interact comfortably with the association’s membership, and develop a strong ethic of teamwork and motivation with staff and volunteers.
  • Must possess exceptional computer skills and be skilled with Microsoft Office products, particularly Excel.
  • Must possess expertise with a membership management system; Protech experience is highly preferred.
  • A background working with a member-based professional association, invoicing, and planning/managing special events is desirable.
  • A history of updating websites and writing and editing promotional materials is desirable.

REQUIREMENTS:
The applicant should be a committed, well-established, mature Christian, and an active member of a local Evangelical church.

Must be willing and able to travel for special events several times a year.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Correct, create, expand, and maintain member records in NRB’s Protech database and pull data to support operations as requested.
  • Provide project and administrative support to the Director of Membership.
  • Keep the director advised on an ongoing basis of all office activities, including schedules, status of projects, meetings, and budget for the office as well as shifts in the key indicators and member updates.
  • Order supplies needed by the Membership Department in the office and at Convention, ensuring orders are within budget and received timely.
  • Execute member care phone calls and mailings.
  • Invoice members, including new members and all members annually.
  • Update the website.
  • Write or edit a variety of materials.
  • Assist with planning and executing special events, from the office and onsite.
  • Develop positive member and team relationships.
  • Provide effective customer service to the membership.

General

  • To perform other duties, as assigned by the Director of Membership.
  • To perform all work with the highest ethical and moral standards, in compliance with all NRB internal policies and procedures.

NRB Policy Analyst II

PURPOSE:
This position provides support to the Director of Public Policy & Communications in developing, executing, and managing the overall public policy engagement strategy of NRB. The Policy Analyst conducts in-depth research and analysis of legislative, regulatory, and public policy issues that impact small, local, independent, and Christian broadcasters, religious nonprofits, and other entities represented in the NRB membership. This position involves drafting and editing articles, analysis, memoranda, press releases, statements, letters, and talking points, as well as coordinating and managing projects in member-facing and external-facing public policy communications. This role requires a high degree of professionalism and polish in written and verbal communications.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Experience, and Training
The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in government and at least 1-2 years of relevant professional experience. A tenacious fact-finder with superb writing capability and enthusiasm for public policy will thrive in this role. The ideal candidate will have a firm commitment to the historic truth of Scripture and defense of First Amendment freedoms. Hill experience preferred.

  • Must possess superb research and writing capability, meticulous attention to detail, and ability to edit own work.
  • Have well-developed critical thinking skills, including the ability to analyze legislation and other proceedings and articulate alternatives and solutions.
  • Have a growth-oriented mindset and appetite to sharpen and improve skills, processes, and operations.
  • Have exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with all levels of management and staff and the willingness to work in partnership with government and non-government organization staff.
  • Have the ability to provide proactive and responsible support to the division: communicating with supervisors, meeting deadlines, implementing feedback, responding to changing and emerging priorities, possessing strong organizational and time management skills, and engaging in collaborative processes as an involved team member.
  • Have professional polish and poise and consistently exhibit competence and grace in interpersonal and social skills. Candidate should have an understanding of Washington, D.C. professional etiquette and protocol for interacting with elected officials, policymakers, and counterparts (such as legislative aides) in external organizations and offices.
  • Candidate should be based in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area with the ability to commute to Capitol Hill.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Issue Research

  • To conduct in-depth research and analysis of legislative, regulatory, and public policy issues that impact small, local, independent, and Christian broadcasters, religious nonprofits, and other entities represented in the NRB membership.
  • To focus primary research efforts on First Amendment challenges, telecommunications issues, and other issues outlined in the NRB Public Policy portfolio.
  • To monitor and recommend updates to the NRB Policy Packet on a biweekly basis; to assist the Director of Public Policy and Communications in producing biannual updated editions of the NRB Policy Packet.
  • To track specific bills and proceedings as they move through the legislative and regulatory process.
  • To flag emerging issues and participate in strategic planning aimed at developing public policy solutions.
  • To track NRB’s advocacy actions and maintain an up-to-date advocacy actions inventory.

Government Relations

  • To brief staff in advance of Capitol Hill and Executive Branch office visits and attend meetings as directed.
  • To help maintain and enhance NRB’s network of Capitol Hill and federal agency staff relationships, attending public events and seminars as directed.

Communications

  • To draft memoranda outlining member mobilization and lawmaker engagement strategies.
  • To coordinate webinars and conference calls with lawmakers and policymakers that provide value to various NRB constituencies.
  • To draft materials that effectively communicate NRB’s public policy positions to various audiences, including:
    • Press releases
    • Media talking points
    • Presentation materials for government and non-governmental organization offices
    • NRB public policy emails and Member Alerts (calls-to-action)
    • Articles for NRB publications
    • Articles for external media outlets, as directed
    • Social media content on public policy issues, as directed
    • Interview questions for online conversations and briefings with policymakers
  • To perform department administrative tasks (scheduling, data entry, maintaining production calendar) as directed.

Administration

  • To provide timely, accurate, and informative updates on projects and activities to the Director of Public Policy & Communications.
  • To maintain detailed, accurate, and up-to-date records of any reportable lobbying activities.
  • To attend NRB staff and planning meetings, as directed.
  • To meet regularly with the Director of Public Policy & Communications for planning and prioritizing activities.

General

  • To exhibit flexibility and perform other duties, as assigned by the Director of Public Policy and Communications.
